Top 10 Party Movies: Cue the Hangover!

You have to give it to the film 21 and Over. It doesn't shy away from what it's about, simply from its title. Jeff Chang is turning 21 and he's going to have the time of his life tonight, even though he has a med school interview in the morning. The film is the latest from the team that brought you The Hangover and to say it continues a tradition of "getting wasted" movies is an understatement.

Movie Fanatic went back through the archives and did our best to find the best parties in Hollywood history. Without any delay, crack one open and dive into our Top 10 Party Movies of All-Time.

10. Project X
All one needs to know about this "found footage" party movie is that you would be hard pressed to find a party in a movie with the seismic scope of Project X. The feel teased in the Project X trailer is pale to the entire experience of the movie. By the time this party is done, an entire city block will have been destroyed.

9. Bachelor Party
Wait, what's that horse doing in the hotel elevator? Now, this is a party. One of Tom Hanks' first films is one of the best party films of all-time. With his wedding merely days away, a mild-mannered school bus driver -- who is about to marry one very rich daddy's girl -- is "kidnapped" by his friends and taken to a downtown hotel for the Bachelor Party of a lifetime. Is it one of the Top 10 Tom Hanks Movies of all-time? Perhaps...

8. Sixteen Candles
Imagine being the age of Anthony Michael Hall's character in Sixteen Candles and having the night he did? That is one for the record books. The movie may have been about Molly Ringwald and her quest to find love with dreamy Jake on the day her parents forgot her sixteenth birthday, but at its heart there was the party at Jake's house! Just ask Long Duk Dong about the fest and where Grandpa's car went. "Automobile?!" Just one of many Sixteen Candles quotes for the ages.

7. Superbad
Michael Cera and Jonah Hill are on a mission and judging by these unforgettable Superbad quotes... they succeeded. Superbad also scored in introducing us to one of the more interesting party movie characters with McLovin'. His dual evening between living it up at the biggest party of the year and his experience running around with those hilarious cops (led by Seth Rogen) is what makes Mr. McLovin' legendary in our book.

6. Risky Business
Poor Joel, this writer who shares his name could commiserate with the position the teenager was in when Risky Business hit theaters. Expectations weigh on him like an anvil. Yet, he is a teenager and ready to spread his wings. And maybe that might include throwing a party that involves rescuing a bevy of prostitutes while simultaneously raising money to fix his father's car that he somehow managed to have dropped into the river. Yeah, that was a good night... and profitable too. Tom Cruise's Joel got into Harvard because of that party. For more, check out these Risky Business quotes.

5. Dazed and Confused
Party at the Moon Tower! And what a fest it was! Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused was not only an ode to the last day of school in 1976 and the big party that followed, but also assembled one of the best casts in one as well. The film introduced the world to Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Joey Lauren Adams, Parker Posey, Cole Hauser, Milla Jovovich, Adam Goldberg and Jeremy London. Oh, and that opening scene with Aerosmith's Sweet Emotion is iconic.

4. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
You know that lost weekend in Vegas that lives in your past? Well, there is nothing that happened during your Fear and Loathing Las Vegas moment that compared to what is shown in Johnny Depp and Terry Gilliam's vision of the iconic book by Hunter S. Thompson. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas may have pushed the boundaries on multiple occasions, but that is exactly why we adore it.

3. Old School
"We're streaking!" Just one of the instant classic Old School quotes that have stood the test of time. Will Ferrell, Luke Wilson, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn may have headlined the Todd Phillips (this is one of several of his films on this list!) movie, but the real highlight of this film is the raging passion for partying that this fake fraternity unleashes.

2. The Hangover
Remember the first time you saw The Hangover? Recall how it simultaneously blew you away and spawned laughs the likes of which haven't been generated at the movies in quite a while? What a fantastic idea for a comedy. Take three great friends (Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifianakis) and have them trying to piece together a night in Las Vegas that got away from them... all in an effort to find their friend who also has to be married within hours. Tick tock guys!

1. Animal House
The movie that set the standard for the cinematic soiree is Animal House. John Belushi may have become a huge star after appearing in the John Landis movie, but what truly came out of this 1970s comedy is the blueprint for all films to follow when it comes to the "college movie" and the "party movie." Yes sir, may I have another... fits our feeling every time we watch the movie, besides being one of the best Animal House quotes!

Honorable mentions: Fast Times at Ridgemont High (The movie itself is a party, there is not much partying in the movie per se), The Party, 200 Cigarettes, Weird Science, Very Bad Things, American Pie and House Party 2 (because of the Pajama Jammy Jam!).
