Horrible Bosses 2 is a Go!

$

0

Horrible Bosses was a surprise hit in 2011 and the film’s screenwriters, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, have been hired to pen the sequel.

Sexually Abusive Beauty
It would be impossible to imagine a Horrible Bosses sequel without stars Jason Sudeikis, Charlie Day and Jason Bateman… so count them in, unlike the possible Kristen Wiig-less Bridesmaids sequel.

The original film’s director, Seth Gordon, is already talking with Warner Bros. about helming the second film. In Horrible Bosses, Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell and Jennifer Aniston were the titular bosses and (spoiler alert!) as Spacey’s character went to jail, Farrell died and Aniston was blackmailed to be good, who knows who the new bosses will be in Horrible Bosses 2?

Perhaps a hint of that was seen in the final moments of Horrible Bosses when Jason Bateman met his new boss, played by Bob Newhart. As they were walking to the office building where they both work, someone could be heard yelling for help from inside the trunk of Newhart’s car. Perhaps we have our first boss from Horrible Bosses 2?

Justin Timberlake "Seriously" Considering Elton John Biopic

Elton John has announced plans to pursue a biopic based on his celebrated life. When he spoke about the project, he already had someone in mind to portray the singer-songwriter: Justin Timberlake. The star of In Time and Friends with Benefits appears to be flattered and “seriously” interested in taking the role.

Justin Timberlake in In Time
John said yesterday that Timberlake is “number one on my wish list.” This idea has not come out of nowhere. Timberlake portrayed John in the video for This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore and John called his performance “superb.”

A source close to Timberlake told E! that “he’s working with his people to figure out exactly how to respond.”

The Tiny Dancer singer did an interview with the Los Angeles Times and stated that his life story is “very much in the works.” John also said that he believes his life isn’t all that extraordinary and that the biopic would focus on his time in rehab with a Moulin Rouge-type look back at his career and humble beginnings. "I just don't want it to be a normal biopic,” John told the Times.

Dark Knight Rises Trailer Spoof: Lion King Mash-Up!

The Dark Knight Rises trailer has set the world afire. The Lion King 3D re-release was a box office smash. Put the two together? Why not, as a spoof of The Dark Knight Rises trailer has arrived online using footage from The Lion King trailer in a mash-up of epic proportions. This is a stroke of genius and Movie Fanatic has the video for you!

The Dark Knight Rises is one of the most anticipated movies of 2012 and with that comes a fair amount of pressure. What can relieve pressure as well as humor? Christian Bale and director Christopher Nolan are back for one last Batman, so Dark Knight Rises is our last chance to parody one of the most successful franchises of all time.

In the clip above, Simba is Bruce Wayne, Nala is Catwoman (Selina Kyle), Scar (of course!) is Bane and Zazu is the voice of Alfred. Bloody brilliant, no?

The Devil Inside Movie Review: Devilishly Delightful

$

The Devil Inside is one of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen. The film dishes its horror subtly over the course of the film until its furious finish.

Suzan Crowley in The Devil Inside
Devil Inside is that rare horror movie that plants its horror seeds in your brain in its opening moments. They then bear fruit with increasing fervor by scaring you as the film progresses. Therefore, that fear emerges from deep inside your soul as the minutes pass in the theater, and is exactly why Devil Inside is so deliciously ghastly in its ability to shake you to your core.

In fact, soul is at the heart of Devil Inside: Human’s ongoing battle against the nether world’s demons. Isabella is a twenty something woman. When she was a young girl, her mother was found not guilty by reason of insanity for the murders of three Catholic Church members. Now in the present, she has hired a documentarian to film her efforts to get to the bottom of her mother’s illness… or is it possession?

They head to Rome, where her mother is being cared for in a mental institution. Isabella visits a school for exorcism where she meets two priests who will eventually aid her in her efforts. That, my Movie Fanatic friends, is all we will say about the plot of The Devil Inside. What you need to know about this spellbinding film is that it is purely terrifying, riveting in every way and one of the most extremely original films we’re seen in the horror genre in some time.

Writer-director William Brent Bell has crafted a film that some may say is a found footage type of flick, yet that would do it a gross injustice. There is a real narrative at the heart of Devil Inside. The plot and the bumps in the road that the audience experiences through the eyes of our priests and Isabella are as scary as Hollywood can produce.

The Devil Inside is actually a deeply personal film and that is probably why it is so horrifying. The audience can commiserate with Isabella as we all have mothers and most of us would do anything to see them well. Her struggle is ours, but when there are supernatural forces at work, there is only so much a human being can do. Thus she puts her hope in the professional exorcists. When the priests are fearful, we as an audience are completely petrified.

At the beginning of the film, and as is shown in The Devil Inside trailer, it is stated that the film is not sanctioned by the Church, nor did they aide in the filmmaking. It makes us think, as an audience, if these classes for priests really exist that delve into the art of the exorcism. Are there individuals, soldiers of God if you will, who go to battle every day for the sake of man’s soul? Even if the history behind the story of Devil Inside is fiction, the tale is told with such bold strokes that it feels all too real. And because of that, it is sheer terror incarnate on screen -- an instant horror classic.

Fans of BBC's Sherlock know that Benedict Cumberbatch can catch criminals. But what about acting like one himself?

That question will reportedly be answered in Star Trek 2, as sources confirm the British actor has been cast as that sequel's main villain.

Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock

It's been reported that the follow-up to J.J. Abram's successful reboot will feature Khan taking on the USS Enterprise, no details regarding Cumberbatch's role are known at this time. But you can currently see the actor in both War Horse and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Noel Clarke, another BBC favorite from his role on Doctor Who, will also play a role in the Star Trek sequel.

Underworld Awakening: TV Spot Reveals Vengeance

In anticipation of Kate Beckinsale’s return as Selene, Screen Gems has released a second Underworld Awakening TV spot (don't miss the first Awakening TV spot!) that states that Vengeance Returns. Beckinsale starred in the first two Underworld movies, took the third off, and now triumphantly comes back to the role she originated for Underworld Awakening. Good timing too, as in Awakening there is a second problem besides Lycans that she and her vampire kin have: Humans have now entered the fray and they are less than hospitable to her vampire clan.

Underworld Awakening arrives in 3D and 2D January 20 in theaters everywhere.

A new trailer for the film Chronicle has arrived from 20th Century Fox. Chronicle lands in theaters February 3 and follows a group of teens who suddenly discover they have superpowers. Is this our next generation of superheroes? From the looks of the new spot, absolutely!

As our teen heroes learn to control their powers, they can more and more effectively use them for their advantage. Now, is that a good thing? These are teens after all, who tend to be stereotypically self-centered! Check out Chronicle and learn how stars Michael B. Jordan, Alex Russell, Michael Kelly and Dane DeHaan become superheroes... or not.

Haywire Trailer Teases: 150 Seconds of Soderbergh Action Previewed!

The new two-and-a-half minute trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire has premiered. Haywire is an off-the-hook thriller with action unlike any we’ve seen in quite a while and that is largely due to Soderbergh’s star, MMA star Gina Carano. The girl proves she can act and in the process kicks quite a lot of butt.

Haywire arrives January 20 and stay with Movie Fanatic as we interview the stars in the coming days. Soderbergh, as he usually does -- like in Contagion -- scores a superstar cast for his film. Haywire also stars Michael Douglas, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano and Bill Paxton.

The story of Haywire follows Carano’s character as she is trained, then promptly double-crossed by the CIA. As you can tell from the above trailer, that appears to not be such a good idea by the spy agency. She can more than handle her own, and extol justice in the process.

Paranormal Activity 4 Gets a Release Date: Happy Halloween 2012!

As Movie Fanatic reported earlier this week, Paranormal Activity 4 is going forward. Now, Paramount Pictures has given the fourth film in the Paranormal series a release date: October 19, 2012.

Katie and Kristi in Paranormal Activity 3
Paranormal Activity 3 scared up over $203 million in business, after only costing $5 million to make. The found footage film was helmed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (Catfish). Whether those two will return is, as of now, not yet determined.

Also not detailed is where the story will go from here. The third film took audiences back to the 1980s to show how our favorite paranormally-challenged sisters became so spooked.

As soon as we get any Paranormal news about the upcoming fourth film, we’ll bring it to you ASAP.

The Writers Guild of America announced its nominees for its best of 2011 awards and Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris and Kristen Wiig’s Bridesmaids are the early leaders.

Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams in Midnight in Paris
Besides Wiig and Allen, the other writers who scored a nod include 50/50 screenwriter Will Reiser, who adapted his real-life battle with cancer into a heartwarming dramedy. Also of note is the nomination for Diablo Cody for Young Adult. Does this mean she has a leg up earning another Oscar nomination? We think so, although she may not repeat her win for Juno.

Alexander Payne earned a nomination for his adaptation of The Descendants, based on the book by Kaui Hart Hemming. And deservedly so, Steven Zaillian scored a nod for his stellar work bringing Stieg Larsson’s world to life in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo while Tate Taylor earned a nod for his work adapting The Help.

As Movie Fanatic stated in our The Devil Inside review, the film is a new instant horror classic. Much as Paramount Pictures did with its Paranormal Activity series, they have released a grainy, black-and-white video of audience members and their fear-filled reactions to the movie as it played.

The Devil Inside arrives in theaters January 7 and is a don’t-miss for horror fans. The story of a young woman who is seeking answers to why her mother killed three Catholic Church workers is compelling and creepy. Her mother is in an insane asylum in Rome and the young woman arrives with a couple of exorcism experts to rid her of her demons. Devil Inside is terrifying in the utmost of ways.

Disney fans have two reasons to rejoice this January 13. Beauty and the Beast is coming back to theaters in 3D, a la Lion King, and there’s a new Tangled short that will debut beforehand! Tangled Ever After shows our favorite princess and her hero, Rapunzel and Flynn, as they take the plunge and get married.

Tangled Ever After is a follow-up to the Disney 2010 smash film Tangled. Ever After picks up where Tangled left off and features everyone in the Tangled world in high spirits as the love story finds its wedded conclusion.

Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore are back to voice their roles as Flynn and Rapunzel, respectively.

January Movies: Which One Gets You Going?

January 2012 movies are upon us and with The Devil Inside arriving January 6, the month is off to a downright scary start (check out our Devil Inside review). But the movie fun does not stop there as Kate Beckinsale is back in Underworld Awakening, Mark Wahlberg tries to move some Contraband and Liam Neeson battles The Grey.

Katherine Heigl Stars in One for the Money
Joining Devil Inside on January 6 is Dennis Quaid in Beneath the Darkness, another creepy flick. Then on January 13, Mark Wahlberg and Beckinsale star in the action flick Contraband (check out the trailer), and who doesn’t like Wahlberg in a tough guy action role? Also on the 13th is the apocalyptic thriller The Divide (Movie Fanatic just saw it and it is harrowing to say the least).

January 20 is a huge weekend in Hollywood as Steven Soderbergh’s action foray, Haywire, comes to theaters -- don't miss the new full-length Haywire trailer. Joining the action fest that weekend is Beckinsale in Underworld Awakening. Ralph Fiennes gets Shakespearean in Coriolanus and we get a history lesson from Fox with Red Tails, the true story of the African American air fighting unit from World War II.

January 27 features the long-awaited movie version of Janet Evanovich’s One for the Money. Katherine Heigl stars as the beloved character Stephanie Plum while Sherri Shepherd stars as Lula, a hooker with... you guessed it... a heart of gold.

Also out on January 27, we have two thrillers: The Grey starring Neeson and Man on a Ledge with its superstar cast including Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks and Ed Harris. The Grey follows Neeson’s character who survives a plane crash in the Alaskan wilderness, only to discover he’s landed in the middle of a pack of hungry grey wolves. Man on a Ledge stars Worthington as a man who was framed for stealing a diamond from Harris, and breaks out of jail to set the wrong right.

Mark Ruffalo Talks The Avengers: Movie with a Message

Mark Ruffalo is talking about The Avengers. His take on the superhero conclave of awesomeness is interesting to say the least. Is The Avengers a superhero movie? Yes, but Ruffalo cautions it is, above all else, a film about the need for selflessness when faced with adversity.

Mark Ruffalo in The Avengers
"You have all these disparate egos, superheroes in this and that, and they refuse to give up some of their positions in order to make a more perfect union and to join the team," Ruffalo said in a recent Wall Street Journal interview. "That’s really what the whole movie is about: subjugating your own best interest momentarily to further that of the whole."

As we all know, Ruffalo plays the Hulk and his alter ego Bruce Banner. With all those heroes in one spot, one would think it would be easy to get lost as an actor appearing in The Avengers with Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner. But he insists that the cast embraced the selfless nature of The Avengers' storyline and in his mind, has produced something much more than a superhero movie.

"These movies reach a lot of people, they’re our modern mythology," Ruffalo said. "I think a lot of the beliefs I have and cherish were fostered by the decency of our superheroes, and what they were about and what they were fighting for."

Academy Awards Trailer: In Search of Billy Crystal ...

The trailer for the 2012 Oscars has been released, and is certainly a departure from years past.

Entitled "Off the Grid," it features Megan Fox and Josh Duhamel leading the search for a new host (after Eddie Murphy dropped out), with a little help from Robin Williams, William Fichtner and Vinnie Jones.

The fantasy-style quest to find Billy Crystal is unusual marketing for the Academy Awards, but it words. Created jointly by the Academy and Funny or Die, it will promote the February 26 show nationwide:

Academy Awards Chief Marketing Officer Christina Kounelias told The Hollywood Reporter: "We wanted to try something a little bit different this year instead of a traditional, clip-based piece."

"The trailer has a fun twist that conveys how excited everyone is to have Billy back."

Funny or Die's president of production Mike Farah shared a similar sentiment:

"Our team had a great time working with the Academy and joining forces with Billy again. We think the trailer really speaks to the excitement around this year's Oscars, and Funny or Die was honored to be a part of it."

What did you think of the Oscars trailer? Hit or miss?

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has given us another glimpse at the film with the release of a new still. Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) is walking through the woods before making a fateful discovery.

Martin Freeman Stars in The Hobbit
In the photo above Bilbo is about to take possession of “the precious” near an underground lake and you know that means Gollum is not too far behind.

The Hobbit films (there are two, An Unexpected Journey arrives December 14 and There and Back Again lands in theaters December 13, 2013) follows the journey of Bilbo Baggins as he becomes involved in the effort to take back the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor. It’s a day of new stills after we featured a new Hobbit still and now we have Thor and Captain America front and center in a new The Avengers photo.

Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans in The Avengers
Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans, aka The Chrises, are seen here in what looks like moments after quite a big fight. Where’s that Loki fellow? Because you know he’s responsible!

Recently, we ran some plot points from The Avengers and judging by the environment of the still, you know the boys have their hands full fighting back the evil that seeks to destroy Earth.

The Avengers arrives May 3 and we don’t have too much to go on except the first Avengers trailer. Hopefully another trailer will arrive soon… our money is on its appearance during the Super Bowl.

Underworld Awakening Clip: Selene and Eve Talk it Out

With Underworld Awakening’s release exactly two weeks away, fans of the vampires versus Lycans series are getting beyond excited. To feed that fire, Screen Gems has released a short new clip featuring star Kate Beckinsale as Selene having a serious conversation with a new character, a young child named Eve.

This is Beckinsale’s first trip back as Selene since the second Underworld film. To say we at Movie Fanatic are thrilled she’s returned in Underworld Awakening is the understatement of this still young year.

Weekend Movie Preview: January 6, 2012

Now that the holidays are behind us, the studios are aiming to scare you with two new releases this week. One, The Devil Inside, is released everywhere and is “one of the scariest movies” Movie Fanatic has ever seen (check out our The Devil Inside review). The second is coming to select theaters across the nation, Beneath the Darkness, and features Dennis Quaid as a mortician who is more than a little bit off.

The Devil Inside: Part found footage flick, part faux documentary, The Devil Inside is all fear factor that is off the charts. Isabella is like most twenty-something adults who are seeking to make amends with their past in order to secure a successful future. The only difference between Isabella and the rest of us is that her mother had an exorcism 20 years ago that went horribly wrong and ended with three church employees murdered. She hires a filmmaker to follow her to Rome to attempt to reach her mother, who appears to be buried underneath multiple layers of demonic possession in an Italian mental institution. Hell ensues, and the audience benefits in the form of a horror movie that is truly one of a kind.

Beneath the Darkness: Quaid is a man who runs a mortuary and let’s just say this: His roommate is a corpse. Quaid’s mortician has a few issues and the teenagers who live nearby, including Prom’s Aimee Teegarden, seek to spill his secret and expose him for the “freak” that he appears to be. From the looks of things, the film Beneath the Darkness, whether it finds an audience in limited release or not, has legs. Fans of horror will take their chances on Beneath the Darkness any way they can see it.

Elizabeth Olsen Stars in Silent House Trailer

A Uruguayan horror film seems like an unlikely subject for an American remake, but that is exactly what filmmaking team Laura Lau and Chris Kentis (Open Water) have done for their latest film, Silent House. The film’s first trailer has arrived and it features Martha Marcy May Marlene breakout star Elizabeth Olsen getting more than a little terrified.

Olsen stars as Laura, a woman who is locked inside the family lake house while the home crumbles around her. She has no water, no electricity and things are getting increasingly more horrifying as the film progresses.

Silent House also stars Adam Barnett, Haley Murphy, Julia Taylor Ross, Adam Trese and Eric Sheffer Stevens. Look for Silent House to scare you March 9.
