Superheroes Used to Inspire Children with Cancer in Brazilian Hospital

We here at Movie Fanatic and around the internet spend a lot of time discussing and dissecting Superhero movies as pieces of entertainment, but we rarely take the time to consider how these iconic characters can be used to inspire.

The A.C.Camargo Cancer Center in Sao Paulo, Brazil has teamed up with Warner Bros. to introduce an entirely superhero-themed treatment to their Children's Cancer Ward.

Chemotherapy has been re-termed "Superformula," using real characters from the DC Comics universe like Batman and Wonder Woman to help the kids understand and cope with their treatment.

Additionally, special comic books and animations have been created that show the heroes going through similar experiences that the kids are going through.

It's a truly unique and inspirational rethinking of an incredibly difficult treatment. Watch the video below to learn more about it:

Zack Snyder directs the film, which will premiere June 14. Check out our Man of Steel posters gallery for more.

Top 10 Ethan Hawke Movies: Is Training Day Number One?

$

Ethan Hawke seems to have been in movies as long as we at Movie Fanatic can remember. We first met him in Dead Poet’s Society in 1989 and there was something about his soft eyes and commanding screen persona that has not abated as the decades have passed.

Ethan Hawke Photograph

Hawke is back on screen in two movies, The Purge– which opens June 7 – and Before Midnight (which has opened in New York and L.A., and will expand nationally June 14). Both movies could not be more different and further show how vastly talented the actor is in his ability to triumph onscreen, regardless of the movie’s genre.

In honor of this invasion of Hawke movies, Movie Fanatic looks back at his esteemed career that has included both blockbusters and indies and we present our Top 10 Ethan Hawke Movies.

10. Sinister
Hawke went down the haunted house hallway for the first time in 2012 and came out with his latest hit movie. The horror flick from uber-producer Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity movies) found Hawke’s true crime writer moving to a community where a horrific multiple murder has taken place. What he didn’t tell his family was that the rental home they moved into… was where the ghastly terror took place. Yes, it's as Sinister as it sounds.

Ethan Hawke Sinister

9. Alive
Alive is one of those movies that is a must-see, but most likely one that will never be seen again. In some ways, that’s unfortunate because it is an inspiring story of survival and every bit of it is true. Sure, the thing people remember the most about the South American soccer team whose plane crashed is that as food ran out, the survivors had to eat the dead. But, what should be the memorable scene is the one where they finally get rescued. It's one of Hawke's best, but is it one of our Top 10 biopics? And don't get me started on the spectacular plane crash!

8. Daybreakers
Before he found Sinister, Hawke dazzled in the horror genre in 2009 with the vampire tale Daybreakers. The Spierig brothers presented the most original of blood sucker stories in the midst of a vampire craze that left Hollywood gasping for something fresh in a genre gone incredibly stale.

7. Reality Bites
Reality Bites defined a generation. The “slackers” that were into grunge music were thought to be a lost cause. Generation X was actually shown to be much more insightful, intellectual and intuitive, thanks to Ben Stiller’s film that featured Hawke as a dear friend who wants more from Winona Ryder.

Reality Bites Movie Poster

6. Before Sunset
The second film in the “Before” trilogy found our lovebirds re-connecting when it was thought all was lost. The magic between Hawke and co-star Julie Delpy was electric in Before Sunrise and audiences could not get enough. The fact that director Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused) and his cast were allowed to make a sequel to a romantic film showed the power this trio had over audiences. Before Sunset is probably the third best of the series, but is clearly one of the ten best of Hawke’s career.

5. Training Day
Nobody wins an Oscar acting in a vacuum. And that was never truer than when Denzel Washington took home his first Best Actor trophy for his work in Training Day, opposite Hawke as a corrupt Los Angeles cop. Antoine Fuqua crafted an instant classic in his story of a newer detective who is paired with Washington’s firebrand.

It becomes quickly apparent that Hawke is the moral compass of the story and his interactions with Washington are explosive and one could argue that part of that Oscar trophy sitting in Denzel’s house is a tribute to Hawke’s performance as well.

4. Dead Poet’s Society
Although it wasn’t his first role, Dead Poet’s Society introduced most of us to the talents of the young actor. Hawke was a student in Robin Williams’ class who soaked up the knowledge emitted by his revolutionary teacher and it is as resonant today as it was when it arrived two decades ago.

Ethan Hawke Dead Poet's Society

3. Before Sunrise
Before Sunrise is the one that started it all. Two people meet on a European train, fall in love and spend the entire night talking, and talking… and talking. And you know what? We love them for it. The trio of Hawke, Delpy and Linklater created a romantic masterpiece that showed that audiences are hungry for rich, passionate dialogue performed by actors with immense talent.

2. Before Midnight
Where Before Sunrise introduced our lovebirds and Before Sunset reconnected them, Before Midnight showed us how real romance lives and breathes. It’s not as easy as they portray it in the movies. And in the third “Before” movie, Hawke and Delpy’s characters have been together for nine years, have twin daughters and grapple with the same issues most couples do… all with that we’ve come to expect it brilliant dialogue.

Watching these two navigate the realities of life while still affirming their love of love and each other is nothing short of brilliant. As our Before Midnight review states, do not miss this film when it lands in theaters nationwide June 14.

1. Gattaca
Gattaca is one of the most underrated sci-fi masterpieces. Andrew Niccol wrote and directed the story of a future world where only the pre-selected genetically live lives to their fullest. A genetically inferior man (Hawke) aspires to more, and cons his way into the genetically advanced world.

Ethan Hawke Uma Thurman Gattaca

Stunning on so many levels, the film will stick with you years after the credits have rolled. Uma Thurman and Hawke’s chemistry pops off the screen and it’s easy to see how they became a couple off it.

Honorable mentions: Assault on Precinct 13, Fast Food Nation, The Purge, Waking Life and Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.

The Internship Review: Dated or Dead On?

$

The Internship features the first pairing of Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson since 2005's Wedding Crashers. The duo waited to re-team for years, holding out for the perfect project that would not bring them back together for the sake of solely bringing them back together. As can be seen in The Internship trailer, this is a remarkably different movie.

The Internship Stars Vince Vaughn Owen Wilson

The story finds Vaughn as Billy with Wilson as Nick and the pair are clearly not only the best of friends, but also quite a selling team. They are in the watch business and are such good salesmen, we understand they could sell ice to an Eskimo. But, what is also quite obvious is that they are both dinosaurs. In an era where almost everyone buys items online, they still believe in the handshake seals the deal mentality.

Within the film’s first 10 minutes, they learn that their business is closing and they, after 20 years of doing the same thing, are left without a vocation. More importantly, they possess hardly any marketable skills for the world circa 2013.

What are they to do? Billy gets the idea in a moment of inspiration and clarity that they need to retool and what better way than through an internship -- and what better company, circa 2013, than Google?

The fish out of water storyline is nothing new in comedy, but in the hands of Vaughn and Wilson it is handled with fresh humor and tone. As they evidenced in Wedding Crashers, the duo are a priceless comic team where neither is truly the goof or the straight man. Each had their moments exploring both, and so much more.

And so is the case in their latest film, as teased in this hilarious The Internship clip where the duo are interviewing for the coveted internship with the tech giant.

Some critics have stated that a story of forty-somethings being clueless about the internet is dated. It has been reported that this film would have worked better in 2005, fresh off of their Wedding Crashers success. Is it hard to believe that people of that age would not know how to work a webcam? No! I know several people of that age who couldn’t figure it out, much less get it right for the first time during the pressure of a life or death interview with the company that defines the internet.

Although the internet is wide-ranging in our society, it is still not truly everywhere. It may be near 90-percent, but there is still a segment of the population where it is currently a foreign concept. And thus, therein lies the humor of Vaughn and Wilson navigating their way through The Internship.

Vince Vaughn Owen Wilson Star in The Internship

Director Shawn Levy (Real Steel, Night at the Museum) balances this high wire act of humor, inspiration and heart with an even hand. He not only gets out of the way and allows Vaughn and Wilson to do what they do best, but Levy has employed a supporting cast that delivers firmly in their roles.

Most notably is Teen Wolf star Dylan O’Brien as a know-it-all tech savvy youth who has no patience for his fellow intern team members from Generation X. It is through O’Brien’s eyes that we see the clash of generations. It is easily understandable that people fresh out of college would wonder what a couple of “old guys” would be doing trying to work at Google.

But, that is what is so touching about the entire film. It shows its audience that anyone in this economy can find themselves out of a job, regardless of age or socio-economic status.

And what better way to combat stagnation than to respond by exploring new avenues, ripe with fresh opportunities?

Sure, the film has some predictable moments and it is not the laugh-out-loud fest that was Wedding Crashers. But, would we want Wilson and Vaughn to repeat themselves? Hardly. Our The Internship review finds that the comic duo has not only broadened their appeal, but left us wanting them to pair up once again. Let’s just hope it’s not in another eight years.

A Good Day to Die Hard Giveaway: Celebrate Father's Day with Bruce Willis

Bruce Willis showed the fatherly side of his character John McClane in A Good Day to Die Hard, and now -- just in time for Father’s Day -- Movie Fanatic is giving away three Blu-Ray copies of the action hero’s latest.

A Good Day to Die Hard DVD

Previewed in the A Good Day to Die Hard trailer, McClane is joined on a Russian adventure by his son Jack McClane (Jai Courtney). It seems that Jack has gotten into a little trouble in Moscow and found himself in prison. What John doesn’t know, is that Jack is on a mission of some sort and in no way needs to be rescued. But, as most sons find from their fathers… a little help is never a bad thing.

The McClane boys aren’t the first father-son action team to get our excitement going. Here are a few more to highlight the father-son bond in film during this Father’s Day time.

The Jones Boys
In Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, we meet Indy’s father (Sean Connery) and it’s easy to see how the apple does not fall far from the tree. And who doesn’t love the scene where Papa Jones informs the audience that Indy took his famous moniker from the dog?!

The Father and Son Force
Luke Skywalker and his father Anakin Skywalker (otherwise known as Darth Vader) first truly explore their father-son bond in The Empire Strikes Back. It was a revolutionary reveal for the Star Wars franchise and it is that film that is often cited as the best of the series.

The Godfather
It must be hard to be the son of Don Corleone. As embodied by James Caan, we can see why Sonny Corleone is a hot head. How do you live up to Marlon Brando for goodness sakes?

Tron Legacy
Spoiler! Jeff Bridges’ Flynn saves son Sam (Garrett Hedlund) from CLU, showing that nothing can stop the bond between a father and his boy.

If the above father and son examples of action heroes and their kin doesn’t get you in the mood for Father’s Day, then surely entering our A Good Day to Die Hard contest will and nothing says “I Love You, Dad,” like the gift of movies!

Use the widget below to enter on Facebook or Twitter. There are three unique ways to enter, and by entering all three ways you can increase your chance of winning. A winner will be announced on June 17. Good luck!

The Purge Review: Ethan Hawke Starts a Debate

$

The Purge imagines a world where our obsession with violence has gotten so intense, that our leaders felt it was worth a shot to make it all legal for one night a year. In the world created by writer-director James DeMonaco, the result is that crime rates the other 364 days a year plummet to almost nothing.

The Purge Movie Poster

Previewed in The Purge trailer, that is where our story begins. While commenting on our obsession with violence in America, the film also manages to find itself firmly in the home invasion subgenre of horror -- in the ilk of Panic Room. The entire house is a supposedly impenetrable fortress.

Ethan Hawke is James Sandin and as our story begins, seven years into The Purge, he has made a handsome profit off of selling security systems to individuals who seek to be prepared for absolutely anything that could come at them that one night a year where chaos rules the land. His wife Mary (Lena Headey) is preparing dinner for the family that includes a young boy and a teenage girl and by all accounts, it’s a normal night in America. Only, there is nothing typical about this at all.

As the Sandins finish their meal, they realize that the clock is about to strike 7 p.m. and it’s time to commence the annual Purge. All windows, doors and any entrances to the home are sealed behind metal so strong… all should feel safe.

That is until a few hours into the night when the youngest Sandin, Charlie, notices a man wandering the street of their neighborhood, bleeding and fleeing what he is saying is a mob. We hear the gunshots coming, creeping ever closer. Charlie cannot bear to hear the man’s pleading for help. It is being ignored by the entire ghost town-looking neighborhood. He quickly races to the control center of the house, and opens up the home. Let the horror begin…

The Purge Ethan Hawke

The Purge has several things going for it. For starters, it is a fresh take on a storyline that could be quite stale. This U.S.A. with its “New Founding Fathers” seems a bit Orwellian, yet still is grounded in a future that could easily be coming our way. The film also was made for less than $3 million, an unheard of amount in Hollywood and given what we see onscreen, it sure doesn’t look like an indie film on any level. That is if you don’t count the man who is the lead, who has made a career of making indie movies, Hawke.

Yet, there are moments of the film that are downright predictable and even make you want to cover your eyes. And that is not from fear… it is from the feeling of, “I can’t watch this because I know what is coming a mile away.” For a film with such originality at its core, in the third act, it suffers from a fate that is all too familiar for these home invasion movies. However fresh the film, in the end, our The Purge review finds it concludes with more of the same.

Although... the greatest asset of the cinematic experience that is The Purge is its ability to start a conversation.

It is no surprise that violence, specifically gun violence, is a continuing sticking point for us as a society. How to handle violence is a debate that never seems to slow. The Purge argues that by meeting violence with more hostility, the overall urge to commit acts of violence will subside. But, at the same time, given how the movie plays out -- and you won’t get any spoilers here -- the same argument could be made for the other point. Look what more violence to fight violence gets you?

The Purge Still

As told to us in our Ethan Hawke interview, both sides of the political aisle can find something to identify with and hold as a banner in the debate. That is a definite plus to The Purge, the movie that is.

Clint Eastwood Collection DVD Review: 40 Films That Make My Day

Clint Eastwood and his status as a Hollywood icon is more than cemented after a half century of transcending work. As part of Warner Bros' continuing celebration of their 90th anniversary, they have celebrated their almost 40-year partnership with Eastwood by releasing The Clint Eastwood 40 Film Collection that chronicles his work from Where Eagles Dare through his latest, Trouble with the Curve.

Clint Eastwood 40-Film Collection DVD

For Eastwood fans, this is a no-brainer as a must-own. For film aficionados, it’s hard to find a filmmaker or an actor with a breadth of brilliance as Eastwood possesses and as such, the 40-film collection is also an important addition to any movie library.

In addition to 40 of his most memorable films, whose details we will get into in a little bit, the package includes a stunning documentary Eastwood Directs: The Untold Story -- produced by Richard Schickel. The film features interviews with actors who have worked for Eastwood as director, but also fellow filmmakers who are clearly taken by his talents.

Among the testimonials that are truly moving are from Meryl Streep (his Bridges of Madison County co-star), Martin Scorsese and Unforgiven (which he directed and headlined) stars Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman.

William 'Bill' Munny Picture

The Eastwood Factor featurette is a documentary that puts the actor-director and his creative influence over Tinseltown in perspective as few films of its ilk have that I’ve ever seen. It goes beyond his tough guy screen presence and gets to the heart of the man himself. In a rare and candid interview, Eastwood reflects back on a career that transcends film to our culture itself. The legend looks at his life in front of, and behind, the camera.

Looking to the actual films in The Clint Eastwood 40 Film Collection, Eastwood has earned five Academy Awards, ten nominations and over two billion dollars at the domestic box office alone! Best Picture winners Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby are in the set, along with dozens more.

Eastwood moved his Malpaso Productions to the Burbank lot of Warner Bros. in 1975 after signing a long term pact with the famed studio. But, his relationship with Warner Bros. began with the first feature included in this set, 1968’s Where Eagles Dare. And after 1970’s Kelly’s Heroes, one of the icon's most iconic roles is featured, 1971’s Dirty Harry -- that continues with Magnum Force, The Enforcer, Sudden Impact and The Dead Pool. Check out this special clip featuring Eastwood doing one of his most famous Dirty Harry quotes, “Do you feel lucky, punk?”

The actor is also as well known for his Western work over the years, and is credited with bringing the Spaghetti Western to American audiences. Among the Westerns in this 40-film set that are astounding are The Outlaw Josey Wales, Bronco Billy, Honkytonk Man (which we consider a Western!), Pale Rider and of course, Unforgiven.

The Dirty Harry movies also made Eastwood an action star and some of his best action movie work is also featured, such as Firefox, City Heat, Heartbreak Ridge and The Rookie.

A well-chronicled fan of jazz, his biopic Bird is another not-to-be-missed moment in the set, as is his other powerful biopic, J. Edgar. And no stranger to getting a laugh or two, the hilarious and heartfelt films Space Cowboys (with Tommy Lee Jones) and Pink Cadillac are both included in the Eastwood 40-film set.

His later work, beyond Trouble with the Curve, salutes his more recent fans with the inclusion of Mystic River, Blood Work, True Crime, Gran Torino, Invictus and Hereafter.

Clint Eastwood Trouble with the Curve

We would be remiss to leave out the 48-page book that features selections from the bestselling book Clint Eastwood: Master Filmmaker at Work. The black and white and color photos are astounding, as is the insight throughout. In fact, I’d be surprised if you didn’t go out and purchase the entire book!

To say this is a perfect Father’s Day gift is a gross understatement, and to paraphrase one of Eastwood’s most famous quotes as it so fits our review of this set: Clint, you have made our day.

Much Ado About Nothing Review: Shakespeare Meets Mister Avengers

$
0
0

There's magic to filmmaker Joss Whedon and what he does. That was present on every frame of The Avengers. It is truly fascinating that he chose to follow up that uber-blockbuster with a modern, black-and-white rendition of a Shakespeare classic, Much Ado About Nothing. Wait, what?

Much Ado About Nothing Alexis Denisof Amy Acker

See, the key to the success of The Avengers in many ways, is it is a tale told by a great storyteller. Since Shakespeare’s follies are considered some of humankind’s best yarns, looks like Much Ado About Nothing should be astounding.

In fact, it is that and so much more. Whedon takes Shakespeare’s tale of a weekend getaway and all its romantic and intriguing trappings and sets it in Los Angeles in modern times. The beneficiary of that bold move is the audience.

It is a well known lore in Hollywood that Whedon took a troupe of his favorite actors and instead of taking a vacation, which he so needed after the laborious The Avengers shoot, the filmmaker made a Shakespeare movie in about a dozen days in his hometown of Los Angeles.

S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson, Clark Gregg, is Leonato, while Firefly’s Nathan Fillion is Dogberry, Amy Acker (Angel, Cabin in the Woods) is Beatrice, and that is just the tip of the iceberg of talent that comprises Much Ado About Nothing

The standout of the bunch is Alexis Denisof, whose Benedick is equally slithery and sublime. He is the actor whose performance on which the entire film turns. Denisof, veteran of Angel and The Avengers, has an absolute ball throughout the film. It is as if he has never had a part so rich in a project so resonant -- which is most likely true.

Joss Whedon Much Ado About Nothing

When it comes to highlighting the stars, who tease their brilliance in the Much Ado About Nothing trailer, the spotlight has to shine on the man behind the camera.

Whedon’s storytelling skills have only improved with time and experience. The fact that he had such success with The Avengers only gave him a shot in the creative arm and it is downright scary to think about what he does next. For those legions who believe he can do no wrong, prepare yourself for the next chapter of the Whedon wizardry of film that is showcased with his ode to the Shakespearean sonic symphony of verbal vibrancy.

What is also so fantastic about this film is how if even a fraction of those Whedon fans who bought tickets to see The Avengers, or purchased the complete Buffy the Vampire series DVD -- or even enjoyed Cabin in the Woods -- show up to see Much Ado About Nothing, the Bard will have conquered yet another generation with his storytelling brilliance.

This Much Ado About Nothing review counts that as the greatest victory of all.

Rapture-Palooza Review: Anna Kendrick Saves Us

$
0
0

Rapture-Palooza is that other end of the world comedy starring Craig Robinson that is arriving for audiences this June. Whereas his This Is The End finds The Office vet playing a version of himself, along with James Franco, Seth Rogen, Danny McBride and Jay Baruchel, Rapture-Palooza has Robinson at the heart of the apocalypse. He is, after all, the anti-Christ!

Rapture-Palooza Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick, as far as we’re concerned, is the headliner here. The actress raises the bar on any film she is a part of -- Pitch Perfect anyone? She portrays Lindsey who, while on a bowling date with her sweet as can be boyfriend Ben (John Francis Daley), witnesses many around her getting literally sucked up to heaven.

She, and her boyfriend, and actually quite a few other people… are left behind. It is the Rapture and those not deemed worthy of making the journey to the pearly gates must remain on Earth with foul-mouthed locusts, pot-smoking wraiths and, oh yeah, the blood rain showers that seem to pop out of nowhere. And then there’s the fire and brimstone that randomly falls from the sky.

Those left behind try to make do. Lindsey and Ben, besides all the hell on Earth going on around them, have the challenge of making it through the day dealing with Lindsey’s ever-complaining mom (Ana Gasteyer), who made it to heaven, only to be sent back! Then, there’s Ben’s dad (Rob Corddry), who happens to work for the anti-Christ and thinks this whole Rapture thing is a hoot. At least the neighbor is somewhat normal… you know that zombie (Thomas Lennon) who does nothing but mow his lawn -- all day, every day.

Ben and Lindsey think they may have found a way to end this whole thing when Robinson’s anti-Christ (who insists on being called the Beast) takes a liking to Lindsey and wants to make her his wife/sex slave. Surely if they can ambush the Beast, things can return to normal.

Rapture-Palooza Craig Robinson

As can be seen in the Rapture-Palooza trailer, the film is an utter goof. It is never meant to be taken too seriously, and that is never more evident than when Robinson is singing I Want to Touch Your Booty. The man is on a roll of late that is hard to ignore.

But the shining light in this film of such comedic darkness is Kendrick. She is a vision of talent and comedic charm that exudes from every scene she has the good fortune of gracing.

Blue Jasmine premieres July 26.

Weekend Movie Preview: June 7, 2013

$

0

The weekend movie preview for this first full weekend in June is headlined by the reunion of Wedding Crashers Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson with The Internship. Ethan Hawke also makes his second walk down the horror hallway in The Purge, Joss Whedon follows up The Avengers with a little Shakespeare and some of his best-friend actors... and Anna Kendrick tries to save the world from the horror that is Rapture-Palooza.

The Internship: Vaughn and Wilson bring their comic chemistry to a story that focuses on a couple of "older" guys who, with no other career options on the table, pursue a titular position at the tech giant Google. While the film is not as crass as their last collaboration, it still possesses the same charm that enthralled audiences with their first pairing in 2005. As we stated in our The Internship review, it's fantastic to see Vaughn and Wilson together again... even if the movie is not quite perfect.

The Purge: In a world where crime rates are at an all-time low, we learn in The Purge that it is because of the annual night of mayhem that carries the titular name. Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey are a married couple with two kids who believe that because of their walled-in fortress they are safe from the violence is legal for one night Purge. As we know, that is not the case. Hawke's son feels sorry for a man wandering the neighborhood injured and running away from people who want him dead, and opens their house and the horror begins. For more, check out our The Purge review.

Much Ado About Nothing: What does the man who brought The Avengers to life do as a follow-up? How about tackle one of the most popular William Shakespeare plays? Whedon is a gifted storyteller and one of the great stories in human history is in great hands. The filmmaker also gathered one fantastic cast, led by Whedon veterans Nathan Fillion and Clark Gregg. As we reported in our Much Ado About Nothing review, this is one not to be missed film.

Rapture-Palooza: Craig Robinson is the devil. Well, he's the anti-Christ in this film that imagines what would happen if The Rapture started and follows those who are left behind that didn't quite get into heaven. The comedy throws everything at the screen, including swearing locusts and a zombie who does nothing but mow his lawn (Thomas Lennon). But, as said in our Rapture-Palooza review, the true star of the film, who makes the entire film electric, is Anna Kedrick.

Now, the movie is being described in much simpler terms. Variety claims that it will follow Archie as he goes through a "teenage midlife crisis" in anticipation of graduation.

What do you think the Archie movie should be like? Straightforward or with a twist? Let us know in the comments!

Snitch DVD Review & Exclusive Clip: True Story Comes Home

As teased in the Snitch trailer, the film features Dwayne Johnson as a father and illustrates within moments of the film starting the lengths to which a paternal figure will go to ensure the safety of his children.

Snitch DVD

In Snitch, Johnson’s son is framed for drug smuggling and due to the mandatory sentencing laws, is sent off to prison with no hope for parole. The system was set up so that lower level drug dealers would turn on those higher up. Yet, with Johnson’s son being framed, he can achieve no such goal.

Snitch lands on DVD and Blu-Ray and allows a whole new audience to discover the story of how his father figure agreed to go undercover to embody the titular soul… all in an effort to achieve the freedom of his son. Johnson makes a deal with a federal prosecutor, played with panache by Oscar winner Susan Sarandon. As such, Johnson will go undercover and try his best to bring drug lord Benjamin Bratt to justice. Our theatrical Snitch review delves deeper into the story itself.

Movie Fanatic also has an exclusive clip with Johnson’s co-star, John Bernthal, that is not available anywhere, not even on the DVD or Blu-Ray.

The former Walking Dead player talks about the tone he and Johnson sought to strike with their characters. Johnson gets Bernthal, a worker at his trucking company, to introduce him to some people who might be able to help him achieve his goal. Bernthal and Johnson have great chemistry, so whatever they did… works!

The extras are on the light side, but still fascinating, particularly the 50-minute “making of” documentary that shows how director Ric Roman Waugh sought to take the action movie and push the envelope.

As Waugh has achieved some amazing chase scenes featuring big rigs, the audio commentary track by the director is not-to-be missed. The deleted scenes add a little something to the viewing experience, but one can see why Waugh chose to eliminate them from his picture.

James Franco is back onscreen as… James Franco! The actor portrays a version of himself, as shown in the This Is The End trailer. The world is coming to an end, and the Rapture begins during a huge bash held at the superstar's house.

James Franco Pic

All of his Hollywood friends, from Pineapple Express’ Seth Rogen and Danny McBride to Freaks and Geeks co-star Jason Segel are there in what we reported in our This Is The End review is a devilish romp that premieres June 12.

Franco is no stranger to big films, what with his turns in the Spider-Man movies of the Sam Raimi era, and most recently he lit up the screen with his uncanny portrayal of a drug dealer/wanna-be rapper in Spring Breakers.

But Franco has had quite the long career, and it appears he is just getting going. So, we here at Movie Fanatic want to know…

What is James Franco’s best movie?
