There are no casting blanks to fill in anymore when it comes to Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige met the press at Comic-Con with his full cast in tow and the biggest news is that Benicio del Toro is in fact joining the cast (officially) as The Collector. Previously it had only been rumored that Benicio del Toro would join Guardians of the Galaxy.

Movie Fanatic got our hands on not only the film’s official logo and release date (August 1, 2014), but also some conceptual art from the film. So, who else did we meet?

Guardians of the Galaxy Official Concept Art

We all knew that Chris Pratt had been cast as Star-Lord (and Peter Quill), Zoe Saldana is Gamora, Dave Bautista is Drax the Destroyer and John C. Reilly is Rhomann Dey.

But, what had yet to be confirmed was the casting of Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) as Yondu, Karen Gillan as Nebula and Lee Pace is Ronan The Accuser.

Movie Fanatic talked to the cast and director James Gunn, more from that is coming very soon.

Crow Comic-Con Poster: Is This the Look?

We previously reported that The Crow remake would be at Comic-Con. Although it was somewhat simple and quiet in terms of an announcement, the creative team presented those gathered in San Diego their first look at the rebooted anti-hero in a poster.

The Crow Comic-Con Poster

Relativity Media has put The Crow on the fast track and the first image of what we can expect from the new film is quite close to vision of the comic’s author, James O’Barr. It is great news that this film is moving forward. There have been many incarnations in the last several years especially, most notably one involving Bradley Cooper.

The 2014 production start schedule has us thinking audiences might be able to check out the vision of director F. Javier Guitierrez in 2015.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Andrew Garfield Can “Urinate Easier” in New Spidey Suit!

Andrew Garfield is the picture of happiness at this year’s appearence of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 at Comic-Con. After all, he has finished filming The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and is here in San Diego to talk about his latest journey in the Spidey suit. Speaking of that, there is a new Spider-Man suit and Garfield truly appreciated a certain adjustment. “I was able to urinate easier in this one," Garfield said and laughed. "That was a very friendly adjustment.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Suit

Then, he got practical… well sort of. “The eyes are much bigger and better. You can see more. It’s still as tight as it was before. I dig it more. I loved the first one, don’t get me wrong. It’s increased my ability to urinate, which I need and am quite happy about.”

One of the most challenging things for a superhero is to maintain a relationship. How is that relationship going with Gwen while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 fights Electro? “As we all know, relationships can be hard. But, it’s especially hard for someone who has to be dedicated to his work. That’s part of the struggle he has with Gwen in this story,” Garfield said.

“I could be in the middle of a proposal on one knee and suddenly I really gotta go and save a cat from a tree. It’s tough to have a life as Peter. It’s 24/7. There are no breaks. It’s not that you can switch your beeper off… sheesh, who has a beeper anymore?”

When we talked to the actor for The Amazing Spider-Man, he spoke of how it was hard for him to be Spider-Man and easier to be Peter Parker. But, this time out, it’s a whole different Peter and Spidey. “In this one, Peter’s a mess. Spider-Man’s a mess. But, what’s important to know is when you meet Spider-Man at the beginning of the film, he’s taking great pleasure in his powers and his in full control of it,” Garfield revealed.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Logo

“What I like about Spider-Man now is he has the confidence to not only be heroic, but it’s not hard for him to be heroic while he’s being a hero to people. What I discovered is Peter is a little brother in a way. Spider-Man gets all the power and the attention and gets to live out his fantasy life, but when he gets home, it’s Peter who has all the bangs and bruises. He has to look in the mirror and to see a real boy in the mirror as opposed to this symbol that’s greater than any human being. It’s complicated, as it should be. Peter Parker has historically been complicated. The more complicated the better.”

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Cast Chat Sequel: First Cesar Image Revealed

0
0

As Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves addressed the press -- 20th Century Fox released our first look at Serkis’ Cesar.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Cesar

Serkis said that because of the way Cesar was raised by human beings, there was always a sense of not knowing who he was. “He has human belief systems. I will never forget reading the (first film’s) script for the first time and thinking about the trajectory of that character and realizing that he’s just an ape. If you take that away, he’s still an amazing character,” Serkis said.

The actor, who also plays Gollum in theLord of the Rings movies, believes that how he approached portraying Cesar in a motion capture suit is exactly why audiences resonated with the beast. “I think what people responded to was all of his recognizable human emotions. Now, it is very much about Cesar becoming a leader and having him throw away everything that he grew with. It’s about him coming into his own by building this group of apes and chimps, 2000 strong,” Serkis said.

“He’s trying to evaluate on a daily basis how he can command this group and take it to the next level. He also has a family with two teenage sons, a wife, a counsel, and a very big community that he is responsible for. Then on top of that it is about how he communicates with human beings that he still has feelings for. Fighting back has been one of the biggest challenges for him. He is a very rich character.”

For his film, Reeves admits coyly that there will be references to the first film, Rise of the Planet of the Apes. “Lets put it this way -- we don’t do it in a sort of winking way,” Reeves said and smiled.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Jason Clarke Andy Serkis

“What was done so brilliantly in Rise was that you became an ape, you became Cesar and you cared about him. The thing that we wanted to carry forward was the emotion within the context of this story. We all know that it leads to The Planet of the Apes, not the Planet of the Humans, so our story is really about where this fits among that.”

For star Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty), the journeyman actor could not be more pleased about finally making his mark on a leading man level. “It feels good. It also hurts,” he said and laughed.

“I got the call one day and they said, ‘Do you want to do Planet of the Apes?’ I said, (expletive) yea! I play a different mirror to Cesar [as opposed to James Franco]. There are many different ways to talk about it,” Clarke said.

He then gave more insight into his Dawn of the Planet of the Apes character. “I play Galvin, who was an architect who has a son and lost a wife. He now has a new partner and is trying to find a way to keep his family alive. He’s trying to survive. Through the story in a funny way he finds his inner ape as well. Through the ten years that this virus and civil war has gone on, he’s lost a lot and he gains a lot back through his interactions in the woods.”

Reeves is excited for audiences to see how the world of Apes has evolved into a simian ruled world.

“It’s interesting because to me even though the movie deals with the viral apocalypse that comes from the end of the last film, the movie is not a post- apocalyptic movie. It’s a story that starts in the world of apes,” Reeves said. “You see what they’ve built and this primitive majestic kingdom. You see a family, and a way in which they come into being. Then they are thinking and wondering in this new creation, are the humans gone?”

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is told from the point of view of the titular characters. When they realize that humans still exist, a battle begins. “It becomes a story of survival,” Reeves said. “That’s what the whole story becomes about. How can these two populations co-exist and will it lead to violence?”

Godzilla at Comic-Con: Going Inside the Monster

Much has been made about the attack on San Diego that was Godzilla at Comic-Con. Movie Fanatic was there when the creative team made landfall and spoke to stars Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor Johnson and director Gareth Edwards. Cranston, for one, knows all too well the secret to the badass monster’s success all these decades. He first became aware of the nuclear accident spawned reptile as a child.

Godzilla Comic-Con Poster

“Unfortunately, my discovering of Godzilla was in the 1950’s with the Raymond Burr movie. I remember watching that on TV. That was astounding and astonishing, even for its time. It was amazing to see those special effects that were state of the art at the time. I just loved them. For a boy to watch that, it was great destruction,” Cranston said.

The Emmy winning star of Breaking Bad admitted that times, and what audiences crave has changed and that’s why Warner Bros.’ Godzilla is ready for his 21st century close-up.

“Our tastes have become more sophisticated since then. That’s what is so great about this version of Godzilla. There is careful concern to develop the plot line and its intricacies and the character development. Without that, audiences wouldn’t be invested. Audiences, I believe, will truly be invested in these characters and riding with them through the tension, fear and anxiety.”

Olsen, veteran of indie films such as Martha Marcy May Marlene and Liberal Arts, found the big budget spectacle of Godzilla surprisingly inspiring. “I was expecting to sit in a fancy trailer for three hours until they were ready with a lighting set up or something,” Olsen said. “What ended up happening was the moment I was ready I was on set till lunch time and then until we wrapped.”

She credits the studio behind the film, Legendary, with allowing their films to breathe.

“Legendary does a good job of creating this incubator of creativity and they hire people that they trust and they put them in an incubator and they allow them to put their heads together to do what they need to get done. It was just as creative a process as anything else, honestly.”

Taylor Johnson responded to how Edwards fostered a set that allowed the emotional connection with the audience to develop, even while a city gets destroyed.

“What was really interesting is that this, sure, is a special effects movie. My idea of a special effects movie is you go to a studio and film against a green screen all the time. Maybe there was a couple of days like that,” Taylor Johnson said.

“A majority of the time we were on location and it gave it a whole nother depth. We were on locations with utter destruction and people injured and it came to life and felt so natural. The way we were shooting it, it was with you and you’re on the journey from our perspective. So, when you get into the Godzilla it’s out of a car window or through a military helicopter. You’re really on a rollercoaster.”

Edwards admitted he never worried about effects. They were not a part of his shooting mentality. “It’s just about telling the best story we can tell. It’s about humans trying to survive,” Edwards said.

“What was so refreshing is we would shoot scenes that would have the creature -- we desperately try to make it work from an emotional point of view on its own. We were painstakingly worried about characters and their journey. And on top of that, there’s going to be spectacle that’s going to be put on top of it.”

Godzilla Movie Poster

Olsen had also never appeared in a special effects-heavy film and wound up finding great joy in the process. “It’s kind of funny to be like, ‘That corner up there is this thing, and is it a unicorn or is it a sniper?’” she said and laughed.

“It’s like playing in hot lava as a kid. You’re trying to go deep into your imagination. You’re like, ‘Yeah, that’s a monster and it’s going to kill me unless I run fast.’”

The first Godzilla was one borne of tragedy. Nuclear panic had gripped the world and this monster was a result of it. Cranston cautioned that this Godzilla will have every bit of societal reflective power.

"It’s a cautionary tale,” he admitted. “I think you look at the tale and you see the scope of it. It is relevant to today’s time: Harnessing power, messing around with Mother Nature… can you get away with that? How long can you get away with that? Living in that milieu is this creature that emerges from the muck and mire.”

The Conjuring is one scary movie, as we stated in our The Conjuring review, and horror fans agreed by showing up in droves and making the James Wan-directed movie number one. The weekend box office also saw Despicable Me 2 continue its impressive run by adding another $25 million to its haul, bringing its total to $276.2 million. But, this week’s big story is the $42 million The Conjuring took in its first week of release.

The Conjuring Patrick Wilson

Turbo debuted and landed in third, with an impressive $21.5 million, while the other two big debuts didn’t quite ignite as much summer heat. Reynolds and co-star Jeff Bridges can’t be happy with their seventh place finish with $12.8 million.

Joss Whedon Gives Details on Avengers: Age of Ultron

0

The announcement was huge and could have been confused for a spike in a seismograph in San Diego when Joss Whedon took to the stage of Hall H and announced The Avengers sequel would be called Avengers: Age of Ultron. He met with Marvel Studios’ show Marvel Live! and spilled even more details that are sure to send fans’ tongues a-wagging.

Joss Whedon Comic-Con

First up, Whedon clarified how the title of his sequel should not be confused with the book that shares the same name in terms of them also sharing plot points.

"A lot of people, because we called it Age of Ultron and there was a book called Age of Ultron recently, assumed that was the storyline we were doing which is not the case. We're doing our own version of the origin story of Ultron. The other thing is in the origin story, there was Hank Pym, so a lot of people assumed he was going to be in the mix, but he's not because we're basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use,” Whedon said.

"A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside. Ultron was their chief villain when I read the book. He has been the Avengers villain for so long, I was amazed anybody was surprised it was going to be him in a movie. But we're sort of crafting our own version of it, where his origin comes more from The Avengers that we already know about it."

Whedon, normally quite shy with details, perhaps was on an adrenaline rush from greeting that manic Hall H crowd and shared more insight into his film than he usually does. "It's a little bit darker than the other film. Because Ultron is in the house there's a science fiction element that I think is a little bit stronger than the other film. Getting the team together was so rousing, but seriously, keeping the team together is a completely different problem."

The Avengers maestro even admitted that before he made The Avengers, he knew he would be heading into the world of Ultron.

"Since before I even took the job of making the first one, I thought, 'Well, I don't know if I want to make this movie, but the second one should have Ultron in it!'"

Avengers: Age of Ultron Logo

The other surprise from the Marvel Live appearance was while The Avengers was primarily focused on New York City and the Loki-led alien invasion, the sequel will have a more international feel.

"It's very much a global Avengers film. A lot of the movie has to do with their place not only in America but in the world," he said.

Lastly, he teased that a certain Avenger will get a little more screen time and where and when we can except filming to commence. "Part of the fun for me, definitely, this time around is writing Hawkeye, because he did get possessed pretty early by a bad guy and sort of had to walk around scowly for most of the movie last time. So now it's nice to actually have the character there and really see him interact with the other guys," Whedon said.

As for that timeframe? "End of February, beginning of March. We'll be shooting in London… London will be the base for Avengers 2."

Catching Fire: First Finnick Image of Sam Claflin

Fresh off the heat they ignited at Comic-Con with the debut of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire trailer, an image of Finnick has appeared and let's just say Sam Claflin will not be cooling things off.

Catching Fire Star Sam Claflin

Of course those that read the book series by Suzanne Collins know that Finnick plays a major role in the plot of Catching Fire and let's just say Claflin appears to be the perfect choice to embody what Collins painted with her prose.

The film's buzz is only growing and images are filling in our blanks as to how the sequel to The Hunger Games will look. Judging by these Katniss and Peeta wetsuit photos, new to the series director Francis Lawrence has a firm grasp on the visual representation of the explosive blockbuster's world.

Dennis Farina Passes Away: Midnight Run Actor Gone at 69

Dennis Farina has died earlier today, due to a blood clot in his lung. The actor appeared in one of our favorite movies of all time, Snatch, and is beloved for his work in Midnight Run, Get Shorty and Manhunter. He was most recently seen on TV, playing Jake Johnson’s dad on New Girl.

Dennis Farina Picture

Before becoming an actor, Farina was a cop in Chicago for almost 18 years. If you ever wondered how he was so good at channeling both sides of the law, it is clear he learned a thing or two from his time in the Chicago PD.

Farina was a go-to character actor who could always be counted on to give filmmakers and audiences alike exactly what they expected from the characters he played, and so much more. He was a screen presence in every film he was in, and was honestly unforgettable. With the recent loss of James Gandolfini and now Farina, Hollywood has lost a couple of tough guys that will be impossible to replace.

Captain America The Winter Soldier: Chris Evans Talks Trouble for “Boy Scout”

0

Captain America: The Winter Soldier star Chris Evans arrived at Comic-Con ready to get something straight: Enough with the fish out of water jokes when it comes to Captain America and how he lived in the 1940s and emerged in present day to fight in The Avengers with an occasional raised eyebrow as to the modern marvels he was seeing.

“I think you’d get a little tired if every joke was, ‘What’s the internet?’ He gets it,” Evans said and laughed. The humor will have to come from elsewhere, Evans admitted.

Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson Photo

"The problem is that he doesn’t sling jokes. He’s not sarcastic. So, it’s hard to find the humor unless the humor is self-deprecating, but you can’t keep playing that one note of, 'I don’t get it, what’s going on in this modern world?!' I think we’re past that. He’s up to speed. He has a cell phone. We’re trying to find humor in other places, thanks to [Anthony] Mackie, in large part.”

Anthony Mackie, who joined the Marvel force as Falcon, credits his brother for introducing him to not only the character he was born to play, but also the entire animated universe.

“Growing up, my brother was a huge comic book person. He always showed me the comic books with Black Panther and Falcon. So, when I heard about Falcon and was given the opportunity to meet with the Russos (Captain America filmmakers), we talked about it and what they wanted to do with the character. The reason it worked so well is that the two of them had the ability to give dignity and substance to a character without making him heavy and hokey,” Mackie said.

Mackie then demonstrated his humorous nature that Evans referred to that will certainly add to the funny factor in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

“What was so cool [is] having a three-dimensional real person that just happens to be a tactical expert that can fly! I think if the Falcon is added to The Avengers’ world, I’m looking for the opportunity to take down Iron Man, so I’ll be the only flying Avenger. Thor don’t count. The hammer flies. He don’t fly!”

Sam Jackson, who returns as Nick Fury, is asked what role his iconic character will play in the second Cap film. He answers in typical Jackson fast fury. “That’s on the talking points list of things we can’t tell you,” he said, sternly looking forward.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier Teaser Poster

Scarlett Johansson will keep her Marvel Studios streak going as her Black Widow works closely with Cap in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She thankfully sets the stage for what audiences can expect when the film lands later this year. “This film is in real time, so it’s been two years and we’re both agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. We’re fighting on the ground. It’s not like we have these superpowers that we use, and fly around. We have a short-hand between us. It’s very much a working relationship,” Johansson said.

She then teases what could be discerned as a romantic turn for Cap and Black Widow.

“Through a series of unfortunate events, they find themselves in a situation where their working relationship becomes a more intimate friendship. They have some unexpected similarities between them.”

Chris Evans is Captain America for the third time and put even more pressure on himself due to the comic book studio’s gold standard. “I [wanted] to meet the bar with which Marvel has set. Every time Marvel releases a movie, it’s better than the last one. You just want to make sure you’re not the weak link in the chain,” Evans said of the studio behind The Avengers and Iron Man 3.

Evans also admitted that with Captain American being such an all-American man, it has the potential to make movies he appears in solo quite boring.

“Most complex characters have flaws, and Cap is a Boy Scout. The first Captain America film was about giving him the opportunity to serve and be a soldier. In The Avengers, you had so many other characters and all of these establishments of relationships, so you can’t dive too deeply into any individual character. This movie is about showing Cap now,” Evans said.

During his earlier incarnation, it was easy to identify the evil… the Nazis. Today, it is not so simple. “He wonders, ‘Who am I serving?’ With modern technology and access, where is the line? What are we willing to compromise, in terms of civil liberties, to ensure security? That’s where it gets blurry for Cap. It makes an interesting conflict for him because it’s not about just doing the right thing. It’s about, ‘What is the right thing?’”

Chris Evans Captain American The Winter Soldier

The addition of Black Widow, someone who has compromised her morals in the past, and how they are forced to come together in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Evans says, forges the struggle in the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger.

“The relationship with Black Widow is interesting because she’s someone who’s always had the ability to compromise her morals, and Cap is black and white,” Evans said. “As a result, something happens.”

Cue the thrills…

Star Wars Episode VII: Is J.J. Abrams Dropping Out?

0
0

Depending on which side of the coin you are on, there is a rumor circulating in the post-Comic-Con hangover world that will certainly spawn discussion.

J.J. Abrams

Is the idea of J.J. Abrams directing Star Wars Episode VII a thing of the past? We began to wonder about this fact when Star Trek star Zachary Quinto said Star Trek 3 is on the fast track and will shoot in 2014. He also stated that he was pretty sure that Abrams would be back. But, if J.J. is helming the third Star Trek movie in 2014, how will he film Star Wars Episode VII during that same time?

The idea that the Star Wars film was shooting in London was a problem to begin with. Abrams does not want to be far away from his family. Yet, Quinto said at the Irish Film Festival that he thought the third Star Trek film would be shooting in London. Is it possible that Abrams could still have to go to Great Britain?

The situation of him still having to travel far from his family has been created due to his commitment to film Star Wars' next chapter. Perhaps Paramount wanted to have Star Trek 3 filmed there so at the least Abrams could keep an eye on things. Now, if he doesn’t have Star Wars, does he still have to go to England?! Or, would Paramount pull the production back to Los Angeles?

This creates a slew of questions and the release dates of these two films are getting closer by the day! If nothing else, this rumor gives us something to ponder as the Comic-Con news begins to dissipate.

300 Rise of an Empire: Rodrigo Santoro, Eva Green & Sullivan Stapleton Tease Sequel

0
0

Rodrigo Santoro was thrilled to come back to the world of 300 in 300: Rise of an Empire, but it meant a serious sacrifice. "Not eating ice cream was hard. And it was harder this time,” Santoro said to Movie Fanatic at Comic-Con over the weekend.

300 Rise of an Empire at Comic-Con

Although, Santoro was thrilled to portray a character he knew and it was also an opportunity to delve deeper. “The interesting thing for me is six years later, I get to revisit a character and there’s more to his backstory so we can make it a fresh experience. Because in the first one, you see him as the god king and in this one, you wonder how he became the god king,” Santoro said.

The highly technical filming process of 300 is now old hat to the star of the sequel, but that’s not to say the shoot was easy. “Now I know the process of working against a green screen. But, it was challenging and I was ready to work on a long process. I just wanted more time to bring the details. I had a blast on the first one and when they asked me to be in the second one I was thrilled.”

Director Noam Murro stepped in for Zack Snyder, who still wrote the script for the sequel and serves as the film’s producer. Murro admitted that fans of the first film should know that there is no way to replicate that film, but that he keenly is aware of what they should expect from a 300 movie -- clearly seen from even the first promotional moments, such as this 300: Rise of an Empire poster.

“I love 300. I never thought we were replicating it. I think this has a different trajectory and they are very different. There are very distinct fighting styles and battles in this movie,” Murro admitted.

He sought to make it as of the moment as possible in terms of the action, as the first film also pushed the cinematic envelope. “I wanted to give us some forward-looking ship battles that are specifically tailored to how fighting is happening, action is happening. I feel I was charged to create a rich palette in not only how the movie looks, but in the way it progresses from an action point of view.”

Murro also stressed that Snyder still has his handprints all over 300: Rise of an Empire. "He wrote it, so that helped greatly,” Murro said and laughed.

“What is so great about Zack is he’s a filmmaker, a very busy filmmaker, so that allows you to have a great collaboration because it allows you to have an access to his knowledge or instinct, whenever you need it. He also allows you to have the freedom when you need that. That’s all you can ask for. It was quite incredible.”

300 Rise of an Empire Still

Joining the world of 300 was a career high for Eva Green. “I loved the first movie. I was there the first weekend it came out with my popcorn,” Green said. “I couldn’t believe when they asked me to be in this one. That film had such a distinct style and felt like nothing we’d ever seen.”

She welcomed the opportunity to play a warrior woman, who needless to say is a strong female character… something she thinks is rare in Hollywood. “As you know, as an actress it is hard to find strong roles. You’re offered the love interest or boring girlfriend,” Green said.

“Here, she is full-on, she doesn’t do anything halfway. She is obsessed with vengeance. I enjoy playing evil, but not one-dimensional evil characters. I like them to have cracks in the armor. She’s ruthless and a badass.”

Star Sullivan Stapleton knew he had joined a franchise with a passionate fan base when the 300: Rise of an Empire trailer debuted and quickly became the most downloaded trailer on the internet. “I saw it on Facebook when it first came out and I showed it to my friends and put it on my page. But, the reaction to it has been immense,” Stapleton said. “I was not surprised. I knew it was going to be great.”

Evil Dead, circa 2013, is produced by the first film’s director Sam Raimi (Oz: The Great and Powerful) as well as the man who starred in the original (Bruce Campbell). As such, the new film has a reverence for the classic original, while still pushing the envelope to the furthest reaches of fear.

In the film, a group of five friends heads to a remote cabin to help one of their own get off some serious drugs. At first when she has visions, they just discount it as one of the awful symptoms of withdrawal. But, as they begin seeing these horrors on their own… it is too late.

Jane Levy impresses as the main character, and she is surrounded by a cast that is up for raising their game. That’s a very good thing, since the original film is so beloved. Director Fede Alvarez is a huge fan of the first film, and it shows on every frame. Simply watch the Evil Dead trailer and it is easy to see this is simultaneously a love letter to the Raimi film, and also one that seeks to step out on its own.

The Blu-Ray and DVD bonus materials astound. Simply watching it, you will marvel at what the cast had to go through to get physically and mentally ready for the picture. That is explored on Making Life Difficult and witnessing the cast and crew and everything they went through to get the movie made.

Evil Dead Star Jane Levy

Being Mia is also a fascinating look at how they took Levy and turned her into what is essentially a walking horror show, and what better way to cap off this adoration for all things Evil Dead, than with the Directing the Dead featurette? Here, director Alvarez takes audiences behind the scenes to show how he re-imagined a classic. It is a fascinating look at the making of a movie where the subject of the documentary has an affinity for it like no other.

The Blu-Ray features a few extra bonus features including Unleashing The Evil Force -- which explores the origins and design of the new Book of the Dead (seen in the first movie). Also, Evil Dead the Reboot takes viewers inside rehearsals with the cast and Campbell providing his infinite wisdom.

Elysium Clip and Poster: Would You Like to Talk to a Human?

The very first clip from Elysium has arrived online and judging by its title, Matt Damon could be a little frustrated. As he tries to deal with a robot in this futuristic thriller, he gets nowhere and is asked, “Would you like to talk to a human?” Well, we can figure that that goes nowhere as seen in the Elysium trailer -- he must get to the titular facility to have his problem solved.

Damon stars as a man living in the future where the world is even more divided than ever, literally. The wealthy live above Earth on an orbiting ship where all disease and illness have been eradicated. As Damon’s character only has a few days to live, his urgency is understood. He must find a way to Elysium… at all cost.

Directed by District 9 helmer Neill Blomkamp, Elysium hits theaters August 8, and also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley and William Fichtner.

The film, teased in the Getaway trailer, also stars Jon Voight and Rebecca Budig and is touted as a “gritty, heart-pounding action thriller.” The story follows Hawke’s former race car driver, who is racing against the clock to try to save his kidnapped wife. When he comes upon a Shelby Cobra Mustang driven by Gomez, he hijacks the car and speeds off with her still in the automobile… desperately trying to rescue the love of his life.

We don’t know for sure, but what do you want to bet that Voight is the villain?

Look to Getaway on August 30.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Clip: Buckle Your Seatbelts

The latest clip from Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters shows that our man Percy (Logan Lerman, Perks of Being a Wallflower) is back to his magical ways. The son of Neptune and a mortal mother continues his self discovery that began in Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Lightning Thief.

The sequel has the son of Poseidon and his demigod pals taking to the water as they continue their epic journey towards self discovery and ensuring a peaceful landscape for all, rid of evil. Although the action starts at Camp Half-Blood, we suspect most of the film gets into the action with the ocean as the backdrop. And given Percy’s connection to water (through Neptune), this could add up to one awesome adventure.

Gravity: Sandra Bullock on George Clooney Prank "Truce" on Set

The key to the success of Gravity lies in its two leads. Director Alfonso Cuaron knew he had his first star with George Clooney, but there was pressure to cast the second astronaut who gets stranded in space as a man. Cuaron balked, he wanted not only a woman… but specifically Sandra Bullock.

Alfonso Cuaron Sandra Bullock Press Conference

“I wanted the character to look almost androgynous in a way, because she had experienced such loss in life,” Cuaron said to Movie Fanatic at Comic-Con. “I wanted her to have a body of someone who didn’t want to remind herself of what she lost, almost like a robot. And that fits Sandra.”

The pressure was immense to cast a man, but Cuaron never wavered.

“When I finished the script, there were voices that were saying, ‘Well, we should change it to a male lead.’ Obviously they were not powerful enough voices, because we got away with it,” Cuaron said and smiled. “But the sad thing is that there is still that tendency.”

Bullock was not surprised that Hollywood executives had that opinion for a based-in-space thriller, teased so brilliantly in the Gravity trailer. “Making this character female was hugely brave. It's not that you're going, ‘Oh, here's a woman in space.’ It's just a person,” Bullock said at her first Comic-Con.

“But the situations, I think, will feel fresh in a way that you haven't experienced before. The elephant in the room is that roles for women haven’t been as vast and many as the men have. But I do feel that there is a definite shift that has happened. In the end it's about making money, and if studios see that a female can bring in audiences, they're going to make movies with that person, and hopefully that will become the norm.”

Bullock relished finally working with Clooney in Gravity, after knowing him well for decades.

“I’ve known George before the world knew handsome George and the same person he was then is the exact same person he is now. He’s the ultimate team worker,” Bullock said.

Given the brilliant list of co-stars Bullock has starred across, there have been many frogs, and few princes. “You never know when you’re dealing with someone who’s had the level of success that he has. But, all he cares about is, how can I help? You’re always grateful when you’re working with George because he wants everyone else to look better.”

Cuaron, best known for his work helming Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Children of Men, welcomed an artist who is also an Oscar-winning actor and an Academy Award-nominated filmmaker. “He could have just done his job and left, but when he realized we were struggling, he offered to help. He even rewrote one scene,” he said. “He’s always looking out for everyone.”

As Clooney is notorious for pranks on set, were there any on Gravity? “There was a truce,” she said and laughed. “This film was so hard -- pranks had no place. We had no downtime. How are you going to prank someone who's hanging from a scaffolding where 12 wires are rigged up all day?”

Bullock, showing how serious she was for the picture, met with astronauts to ensure as perfect a characterization as possible, given the extreme nature of the film in terms of the danger of their job. “They were so excited about the vantage point that this film was taking -- which was the same that they have -- which is a great love for the program. That is because of what they get to see and admire about our planet and the universe around them,” Bullock said.

“It's such an organic love that they have. It's not just adventurers going up in pods and they just love the technology. They have a deep, deep love for our planet and civilization and what we're wasting. Those were the nice conversations to have that gave it an emotional gravity.”

Cuaron once dreamed of being an astronaut and that affinity is all over his film. But, having made Gravity… does he still feel that way? “I remember when I realized being an astronaut was not going to be an option, I remember I said, ‘Well, then I’m going to be a director of films of space,’” Cuaron said. “However, after having done Gravity, I will never do another film in space.”
