Miss Piggy has been trying ever so hard to get her longtime love to pop the question, and thus far Kermit the Frog has not.

But, in a new still released from Muppets Most Wanted, it appears (at least from the photo) that our beloved Miss Piggy will be walking down the aisle. Could it be?

Miss Piggy is sporting a Vivienne Westwood dress that most brides would kill for, so what’s the deal with the beautiful bride's dress?

“Vivienne Westwood is fabulous -- just like moi,” said Miss Piggy in a statement.

“When I asked her to design this wedding dress for moi’s new movie Muppets Most Wanted, she was thrilled and I was thrilled. The only one a bit ‘iffy’ about it was the Frog.”

Well, there you have it… Kermit is still a bit of a commitment-phobe. But, what big movie star isn’t?!

Check out Miss Piggy’s dress and a quartet of Muppets Most Wanted character posters in the slideshow below... and be sure to check out all those awesome The Muppets quotes from the first film in the new rebooted Muppets series!

Muppets Most Wanted lands March 21!

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes: Gary Oldman to “Wipe” Out Dirty Apes!

Gary Oldman is busy out there talking up his latest film, RoboCop, and he delved deeper into what we can expect from his next film, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Human Banner

Oldman plays a man trying to organize the human race after the flu practically wiped out the population. Meanwhile, those apes led by Caesar (Andy Serkis) are plotting their next move.

“He’s the sort of designated leader, if you will, of this community of those that were lucky enough to survive the simian flu, the disease, and then the ensuing social uprising from it,” Oldman said of his character.

What he told MTV next is kind of a spoiler… so read with caution.

“They’re sort of survivors. He was a police officer, so he’s more of the kind of elected leader of his group, and they need power. There’s a power station and some of my people go out to see if it’s operational, if it’s still out there. And then they discover that there’s a whole community of apes living there," Oldman said.

"We believed they were all completely fire-bombed and wiped out. He’s experienced a great loss, personally, and there’s only one answer for him and that’s to wipe them out. I see him as sort of the hero of the place.”

After the news last week that the sequel to The Purge has a name, now we know that the first trailer for The Purge 2: Anarchy will premiere tomorrow, and to set anticipation higher, Universal has released the film’s first photo.

The Purge 2 Anarchy Still

The Purge debuted to a surprisingly successful box office run, starring Ethan Hawke as the patriarch of a family who thought they were safe from the perils of the annual Purge.

See, each year the government allows its citizens one night of legalized mayhem, where nothing is out of bounds. To respond to that one night a year threat, homeowners take to the inside of their homes and turn them into fortresses. Except, when Hawke’s son feels compassion for someone pleading for help, he lets him in… and a whole lot of hell with it.

Check back with Movie Fanatic tomorrow for The Purge 2: Anarchy. And in the meantime, watch The Purge online!

Time will tell if history determines The Purge 2: Anarchy a “useless” sequel. Until then, click through our slideshow of utterly worthless sequels.

Michael Keaton Talks Batman Versus RoboCop Suit

$

When we met Michael Keaton to talk about his work in the RoboCop reboot, the conversation naturally turned to another role he had where he was constricted by a suit. Keaton famously played Batman in Tim Burton’s reboot of that franchise and was supremely impressed with how RoboCop star Joel Kinnaman handled the constriction that was having to act with little ability to emote.

RoboCop Michael Keaton

“Joel’s job is particularly difficult. People don’t know how hard that is, to do what you need to do because your natural instinct -- or unnatural instinct might be to use your full body,” Keaton said.

“So your inclination or desperation might make you want to ‘go out’ with your performance, and what he didn’t do was that. What he did do was kind of suck back and go inside -- and he makes these unbelievable transitions. He’s human. Then he’s robot, but then he’s robot and human. That’s really hard to do when you’re wearing a big, black suit. I was really knocked out by it. I was really knocked out by the movie.”

When Keaton embodied Batman in 1989, he was all too ready to play Bruce Wayne -- but, when he got on the Batsuit -- that was another story. After struggling with it the way he says Kinnaman triumphs with it, he learned to eventually embrace the uncomfortableness and make it your own.

RoboCop Michael Keaton Gary Oldman

“When I did the first Batman, I made a joke -- but I was actually serious -- I just worked the suit, man. I let that suit go to work for me and that’s kind of what you have to do. I’m very claustrophobic, and we didn’t even know that the suit was going to work at all until literally like I think hours before we were about to start shooting the suit,” Keaton recalled.

“We had shot a lot of the Bruce Wayne stuff -- which was the key, by the way. The Batman thing, I didn’t know what I was going to do with that, so when we got in it, I went, ‘Oh, I’m in trouble. I’ve got to really face this thing.’ Because you couldn’t get out of it! This thing was wrapped around me and it didn't totally work.”

Keaton jokingly, as he is known to do (but we think he’s serious), says that Kinnaman owes a lot to him and his Batman portrayal. “This whole thing where I moved my whole body like a statue came out of something really practical. It really came out of the first time I had to react to something and this thing was stuck to my face and somebody says something to Batman and I go like this [turning my head] and the whole thing goes, ‘rip!,"’ Keaton said and laughed.

“There was a big (expletive) hole! So I thought, ‘Well, I’ve got to get around that because we’ve got to shoot this son of a bitch. So I said, ‘You know what, Tim [Burton]? Batman moves like this [like a statue]!’ I’m very, very claustrophobic and I’m in this thing. And inside, honestly, I started having panic attacks.”

He was scared, and thought he wasn’t going to be able to do it. But, then… lightning struck, and he says it was the same thing for Kinnaman in RoboCop.

RoboCop is Joel Kinnaman

“Then it hit me, ‘This is perfect.’ I mean, this is like designed for this kind of really unusual dude, the Bruce Wayne guy, the guy who has this other personality that’s really dark and really alone, and really kind of depressed. This is it. You just take all of that stuff -- that suit -- all of that stuff that suit was giving me, and I said, ‘Oh, I got it. I know how to do this now,'" Keaton said.

“So it’s odd how those things happen to actors. That thing you think -- I have no idea how to do this -- something will happen in your life, or something comes up, and you just kind of get it. I don’t know how you get it, but actors are kind of pretty extraordinary in that regard. I think it’s fear.”

Keaton wants Kinnaman to get a load of props for what he accomplished inside that RoboCop suit. “It’s really extraordinary what he did,” Keaton said. “He probably won’t get credit for the degree of difficulty that was required.”

Keaton gave us one of Batman's greatest quotes when he uttered, "I am Batman," while sporting that uncomfortable suit.

The Jungle Book Diamond Edition Blu-Ray Review: Beyond Bare Necessities

One of the most beloved Disney films of all-time is landing on Blu-Ray for the very first time. The Jungle Book Diamond Edition features not only the film in the most advance picture quality and sound quality that exists today, but it also features a slew of extras that will have the most devoted of Disney fans launching into song.

The Jungle Book Blu-Ray

The film, inspired by the Rudyard Kipling Mowgli Stories, follows a young boy who dives into the Mowgli as he learns some of life’s most valuable lessons, often from the most unexpected of places. The film featured the music of beloved writers the Sherman brothers, and the Blu-Ray features an introduction to the film by one of those iconic music men, Richard Sherman (who was just profiled in Saving Mr. Banks).

The Jungle Book Diamond Edition Blu-Ray also features a never-before-seen alternative ending, as well as an interview with Walt’s daughter Diane Disney Miller.

We must admit it is something to see a beloved classic from our childhood in the most astounding colors and sounds… it is simply breathtaking. And you know you know those The Jungle Book quotes!

When it comes to new Blu-Ray bonus features, we especially appreciated the @DisneyAnimation: Sparking Creativity that showcases how the film has spawned some of the great animated works of our time. The aforementioned inclusion of Sherman and Disney Miller in Music, Memories & Mowgli: A Conversation with Richard M. Sherman, Diane Disney Miller and Floyd Norman is extraordinary for any fan of The Jungle Book, but especially any Disney fan as a whole.

And what classic Disney Diamond Edition Blu-Ray would be complete without a Sing-A-Long feature? And we get that with Bear-E-Oke Sing A Long.

And lastly, the I Wanna Be Like You -- Hangin’ Out At Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a fascinating look at the famed studio’s newest park and has us thinking about booking those tickets… right now! And it could not be more apt, given the subject of this Blu-Ray!

Need to satisfy that Disney craving before picking up The Jungle Book Diamond Edition Blu-Ray? Why not watch Toy Story 3 online or watch Finding Nemo online

The Manhattan based sketch comedy troupe POYKPAC has truly achieved something and released a video bit featuring a couple having a full-on public fight at a restaurant… using only movie titles as dialogue!

As the couple bicker back and forth about who cheated on who and with whom, the words they’re saying are illustrated by the movie posters of the movie titles that they’re using to further their fight. And it is a very public fight as it takes place in a busy restaurant.

Brick Mansions Trailer & Poster: One of Last Films of Paul Walker

One of the films that was completed before Paul Walker died in a horrible car crash in November was Brick Mansions. The film’s first trailer and poster have premiered and they tell the story of Walker’s tough cop, who must work with a criminal to help rescue the city’s mayor.

See, the mayor has been taken hostage inside a walled-in area of the city where the worst of the worst live, called the Brick Mansions part of town. Crime got so bad in that area that the city just built a wall around it, hoping to contain it, rather than fight it.

Brick Mansions Poster

Now that the city’s leader is held captive, what can they do? Why not send in the badass played by Walker, with a little help from a criminal (David Belle) who knows the area quite well. Who are they up against? Why, it’s RZA! Brick Mansions hits theaters April 25.

The trailer just further shows what a loss it was when Walker passed away. Why not check out one of his final films now and watch Fast and Furious 6 online

RoboCop Review: Joel Kinnaman Kills It

$
0
0

When it was announced that RoboCop would be remade, the 1987 movie’s massive and passionate fan base was outraged. “Why remake a masterpiece?,” they would ask.

RoboCop Stars Joel Kinnaman As Alex Murphy

Well, don’t get Movie Fanatic wrong, we adore Paul Verhoeven’s RoboCop. But, it isn’t a perfect movie and time has shown that it has remained a movie of the 1980s. If is possible to take the concept of a man put in a machine to fight crime on our nation’s city streets and make it timeless… why not try?

Director Jose Padilha has to be given props for making the effort. RoboCop, circa 2014, is not the greatest  movie, but it is pretty darn solid. It even manages to make a few comments on our modern society and where we’re going as a human race in the process.

Joel Kinnaman is Alex Murphy, a Detroit detective, who is close to cracking a case against one of the city’s biggest crime lords. Only, he gets too close and winds up the casualty of a car bomb as his wife (Abbie Cornish) watches in horror.

Meanwhile, OmniCorp -- led by Michael Keaton’s executive and Gary Oldman's scientist -- has been developing robotics that can be applied to humans, mostly with success on war veterans who have lost limbs.

But, the death of Detective Murphy has presented a chance for them to put a man -- who is clinging to life -- inside a machine that will keep him alive, and also… be a super-cop the likes of which we’ve never seen.

Padilha’s film does a fantastic job of balancing the questions of societal ethics versus benefits for the greater good -- something that could be expanded to all corners of science today.  Murphy is not simply a robotic cop that can identify and bring to justice the hundreds and thousands of criminals that wreak havoc on the city’s streets. In Padilha’s film, he’s a symbol of technology and all that can be right with it... and all that can be wrong.

As we debate the use of drones in carrying out our foreign policy and “justice” abroad, there could be no greater forum for the discussion of that man-less use of force than in the entertainment format that is the motion picture. RoboCop also entertains, don’t get us wrong, but it does so in the context of raising complex questions that do not have easy answers.

RoboCop Joel Kinnaman and Abbie Cornish

Kinnaman is astounding in the role that was originated by Peter Weller in the original. The way he utilizes his face, and in that the lower part of his face, to express all his emotions is nothing short of powerful. He manages to go from robot to human and back to robot within the blink of an eye, all within the same scene.

And Michael Keaton and Gary Oldman show their veteran acting chops and bring a level of gravitas to the film that the first incarnation of this story was lacking. Then there's Samuel L. Jackson, who portrays a Fox News-type anchor, well, as only Sam Jackson can!

Also, the increased role of Cornish’s character from the original is welcomed as well. By having her and Murphy’s son so ever present in this movie adds an element of emotion that was not there before. There’s a family attached to the heart of that man inside the machine. I don’t think we ever got that from RoboCop 1987.

Yes, many of our favorite RoboCop quotes are in the movie, but our RoboCop review finds that this film explores a way more meaningful path.

Intrigued? Check out this slideshow of the ever teasing nature of the campaign to bring us an updated Alex Murphy story, told through these RoboCop trailers.

The Best Man Holiday Exclusive: Harold Perrineau Dishes Dancing as New Edition!

Harold Perrineau may be known to many for his work on Lost, but it was his role in The Best Man that put him and so many of its cast on the map. Perrineau, Regina Hall, Morris Chestnut, Taye Diggs, Terrence Howard, Nia Long and more are all back in The Best Man Holiday. The film was a smash upon its debut, and now it’s out on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download.

The Best Man Holiday Harold Perrineau Melissa De Sousa

We caught up with Perrineau when he phoned us for an exclusive interview to talk about the gang getting back together, that uber-awesome dance scene where the guys recreated a famous New Edition dance routine and what it is about these characters that we can’t get enough of… especially given it took 14 years to put out the sequel.

Movie Fanatic: When you have so many years in between movies, The Best Man and The Best Man Holiday, when you first heard that there would be a sequel -- how surprised were you?

Harold Perrineau: I hadn’t thought about it ever being a sequel. What would it do? When the first one came out, it was such a big hit. Immediately, you think we would do another. But, then you realize, that’s the story. They got married. I think that’s it [laughs]. When this one came up, it was out of the blue. But, it makes sense. Malcolm (Lee, director) had said that people have come up to him over the years asking about a sequel.

Movie Fanatic: I heard that there was a dinner where everyone talked about the idea and Malcolm was seeing if anyone would be interested. When you got together at that dinner, it had been over a decade. Did it feel like not a day had gone by?

Harold Perrineau: It really was like not a day had gone by. We just walked up and were like, “Hey, what’s up?!” It was like we had seen each other the day before. It just goes to the power of those people. Nobody was overly spoiled by Hollywood. There is such phenomenal success with this cast. You think it might be a little bit of people head tripping. But, there was none of that. Terrence was just Terrence, he’s just crazy [laughs].

Movie Fanatic: The Best Man Holiday was a huge success. The first was too. What do you think it is about this group of actors in these roles that people can’t get enough of?

Harold Perrineau: Anybody who has friends, you see yourself and your friends up there -- the things that work, and those that don’t. There’s someone you’re dating or married to… friends who are divorced. Or… those of us that have had the misfortune of losing a loved one -- all those things resonate with people. You can find someone that reminds you of yourself, or someone you know in this film. It fits a broad spectrum of America.

Movie Fanatic: Fate is a funny thing and often times a sequel comes years later for a reason. Having those years, your writer-director has grown so much as a filmmaker. What most impressed you about Malcolm?

Harold Perrineau: How he put together all these characters and not making them one-dimensional. The way he stuck us in present time, the way Julian had to deal with, which is the internet. He couldn’t have imagined it [laughs]. But it’s something he has to deal with in this movie as we explore. Sure, [his wife] did some things, but who knew that millions of people one day would get to see it! It was impressive how Malcolm weaved the story of these people and kept it so present.

The Best Man Holiday Taye Diggs

Movie Fanatic: When I talked to Morris Chestnut for the theatrical release, he said he was nervous for the dance scene because he would have to dance next to you, Mr. former Alvin Ailey company member. But, now that I’ve got you… that had to still be a challenge, right?

Harold Perrineau: First of all, you have this scene where we’re going to be imitating New Edition in one of their most famous dance sequences. That’s daunting [laughs]! I didn’t just walk up and do the moves. I really had to work on it. The thing that makes it groove is that we’re all look like we’re doing it together, so I could be Mr. Dancer all I wanted to be, but I’ll look like I’m in a different scene than the rest of them -- then it doesn’t work. We have to this common vibe, which I think we do in this dance thing. I think the entire cast found our thing together.

Avengers Age of Ultron: Elizabeth Olsen on “Different” Scarlet Witch Costume

The response to the casting by director Joss Whedon of Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch has been pretty universal in praise. As Avengers: Age of Ultron starts its production schedule, Olsen talked about what fans can expect… from her costume.

Scarlet Witch Costume

And no, it’s not like it is in the comics. After all, Olsen says, that would not be practical. “I don’t think Joss ever would have hired me, honestly, if he wanted me to wear those outfits. I am not a professional athlete and nor am I a model,” Olsen said to Superhero Movie News.

“Wearing those costumes wouldn’t be fun for anyone who wasn’t those things. He already had a different idea. It respects and involves the comic book character, but it’s different -- more rooted. It’s for someone today… if someone walked around wearing what she wore in the comics, people would stop and say, ‘What the hell… she thinks she’s a superhero!’”

Romeo and Juliet DVD Review: Shakespeare Meets Downton Abbey

Romeo and Juliet is considered one of the great romances of any century, so it fitting that the latest version of the Shakespeare classic arrive on DVD and Blu-Ray in time for Valentine’s Day.

Romeo and Juliet DVD

We’ve seen recent versions that have modernized it, like William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet from Baz Luhrman. But what Romeo and Juliet, circa 2013, does is take it back to its Verona roots. And with Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes penning the screenplay, it has a classic British Shakespearean feel… and that is a good thing for purists who enjoy one of the Bard’s best works.

Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) is Juliet and Douglas Booth is Romeo and the reason the film does work is largely due to their chemistry. It is believable that a chance meeting between members of two warring families would result in a passionate love affair that could either unite the sparring clans, or violently divide them forever.

Fellowes has a great supporting cast to help him as well, as stated in our theatrical Romeo and Juliet review. Of particularly note is Paul Giamatti who brings a more humanistic approach to Friar Laurence than we’ve ever seen. And Ed Westwick’s Tybalt is divinely devilish while Damian Lewis’ Lord Capulet is one for the ages.

Douglas Booth Hailee Steinfeld Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet is not the best screen version we’ve ever seen, but for fans of romance and Shakespeare, it is a solid effort by all those involved.

When it comes to bonus features on the Romeo and Juliet DVD and Blu-Ray, they are educative and entertaining. Creating the Look delves into how director Carlo Carlei’s penchant for detail paid off in a set that feels right out of the era. In fact, the production design is so stellar, it is one of the film’s biggest selling points. Hair and Make-Up is also an important facet of Fellowes’ Romeo and Juliet. This is a period piece, through and through, and with this bonus feature, it is priceless to see how that magic was achieved.

The Filmmaker’s Version is also a treat of a bonus feature. Carlei shows why he was the perfect choice to give us another telling of the classic tale, that is unique… while still staying true to the iconic source material.

Be sure to watch Romeo and Juliet online and witness a romantic story for the ages.

Kevin Hart is on a roll for the ages. Just check out some of his Ride Along quotes and it’s easy to see why -- as delivered by the comedian -- that movie went on to be a blockbuster. Merely weeks after his film with Ice Cube dominated the box office, he’s back with About Last Night, and we would bet that too will top the box office.

Hart stars with Regina Hall, Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant as a quartet of couples grappling with the complexities of serious romance in the modern world.

Yes, it is an update of the Demi Moore-Rob Lowe starring film of the same name, but it is in a league all its own. We caught up with Hall and Hart and when it came to the epic chemistry between these two, they said it was almost immediate. “The surprise was how well we worked off each other,” Hall said.

Hart concurred. “Yeah, after one day we said to each other, ‘Man, we got crazy chemistry!’”

With Hart blowing up lately, we asked Hall what she thought was the secret to all his success… since she had a front row to his massive… talent.

Check out the exclusive video interview below and see her jaw-dropping answer! Then, her compliments for Hart grow so strong… she brings the grown man to tears.

About Last Night premieres in theaters February 14 and is a must-see for not only couples, but everyone in between!

Endless Love: Alex Pettyfer on Having “My Heart Ripped Out”

Endless Love star Alex Pettyfer is a hopeless romantic, he told Movie Fanatic recently. Then his experience making the remake of Endless Love had to be a complete and utter thrill. The film explores the all-out passion and all-consuming nature of first love.

Alex Pettyfer Gabriella Wilde Endless Love

“What I love about this movie is it’s about two young people falling in love for the first time and that naivety that they have. A lot of movies, like Love Story, which is one of my favorite love films of all time -- with Ali McGraw and Ryan O’Neill -- touch on the basis of what they have to do when they fall in love and then get married, have children,” Pettyfer said.

“This doesn’t touch on that subject. It’s about pure love and the consequences that come with that, with being a young man and young woman.”

So Alex, what are your favorite movie romances?

“I love Love Actually (see what he means and watch Love Actually online). I love Bridget Jones. Please don’t judge,” he said and laughed.

Pettyfer stars in Endless Love with Gabriella Wilde as two love-struck teenagers who are ready to sacrifice their respective futures so that they can be together. It also stars Bruce Greenwood as Gabriella’s father and Robert Patrick as Pettyfer’s. Working with those veteran actors was a priceless gift.

“To work with Bruce Greenwood, even Robert Patrick, is an incredible experience for someone like me -- someone who is just starting out and will hopefully have longevity. To work with Bruce and see his work ethic, the way he approaches a scene, is mind-blowing to me. He sees things that I don’t even notice,” Pettyfer said before citing an example.

“There was a scene where we all sit down for dinner and he turns to Gabriella and he says, ‘I want a placemat set for my lost child. I want an empty seat there because my character would still set the table because I’m still in mourning.’ I would never think of that! He adds layers to a scene.”

In the original book and 1980s film starring Brooke Shields, the character of David is a little more unstable, and thus not so redeemable. Pettyfer said that writer-director Shana Feste made a correct instinctual decision to have it changed.

“We wanted a movie where David has made a conscious decision to change his life for the better. We access the movie to a point where he’s a little bit in love with Jade -- when they meet at the valet. That’s a moment that’s been waiting to happen for four years. We didn’t want to indulge in something that he wasn’t part of in the past. We wanted his past to loiter around him,” he said.

“We didn’t want to have any baggage. You see David in hopefully one of the best times of his life. Meeting this woman is an incredible thing for him and only makes him want to strive to be a better man.”

Gabriella Wilde Alex Pettyfer Endless Love

Since the film is arriving on Valentine’s Day, there is no better day for lovers. So, what are Pettyfer’s plans?

“My mom is coming up for Valentine’s Day and being my date. I asked her what she wanted to do for Valentine’s Day,” Pettyfer recalled. “And she said, ‘I want to go see Endless Love.’ I said, ‘OK, I’ll set up a screening.’ She said, ‘No. We’re going to the Grove and we’re going to sit there and watch it in a movie theater.’”

Endless Love is the perfect film for hopeless romantics like Pettyfer. And given his experience with his first love, he certainly could channel those feelings of living solely… for that love. “I think that first love defines you and your relationships, for the rest of your life. I had a great first love. My heart was ripped out of my chest, but I think that happens to everyone,” Pettyfer said.

“When you fall in love for the first time, you’re naive to every feeling that you’re feeling, and you’re almost obsessed with or addicted to that person. Your life is consumed by them, and everything you want to do revolves around them.”
