11 Most Memorable Penguins of Madagascar Quotes: You Just Mermaid My Day!

They were our favorite characters in those Madagascar movies, so it should not surprise that the Penguins of Madagascar spin-off movie scored for us on so many levels.

Not the least of which is that they gave us a slew of quotes that still crack us up, long after the final credits rolled.

Private, Kowalski, Skipper and Rico are the Penguins of Madagascar fab four, but they are not alone in the quote-generating department.

Joining the mix is the astoundingly well cast Benedict Cumberbatch as Agent Classified. He’s the leader of the North Wind and he gets in a few fantastic quotes as well.

Watch Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted online and witness this quaint quartet steal the movie. Check out all of our Penguins of Madagascar quotes and then click through and discover our 11 most memorable!

Kowalski: We've arrived in the center of Dublin, Ireland.

Unbroken Featurette: Behind The Scenes with Angelina Jolie!

The incredible and life-affirming true story of the late Louis Zamperini comes to life with Angelina Jolie’s latest directorial effort, Unbroken.

The astounding tale has released a behind-the-scenes featurette that features not only Jolie talking about the importance of this Oscar-buzzing film, but also features some of the last video interviews with the recently passed Zamperini.

As teased in the Unbroken trailer, Zamperini overcame youthful indiscretions to become an Olympic gold medal winning runner. He, like so many of his generation, volunteered for World War II. He fought in the Pacific theater and when his plane was shot down over the ocean he survived for 47 days. He was then rescued, by the Japanese!

He would then spend his next years in a prisoner-of-war camp where the leaders of the camp would use him as an Olympic hero to squash the morale of his fellow prisoners. Only, it didn’t work. Zamperini was resilient and became an inspiration to not only his fellow prisoners of war, but an entire nation and the world.

We, personally, cannot believe this story has not been told before. But in the hands of director Jolie, it appears that the time is right.

Unbroken lands December 25 and stars Jack O’Connell as Zamperini, along with Domhnall Gleeson (to be seen soon in Star Wars: The Force Awakens).

We leave you with the final quote from the above Unbroken featurette from its subject, “Never give up, never give in.”

Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer: Narrator Is Revealed!

Since the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer premiered, not just us Star Wars fans have been abuzz, but the entire world. It has quickly become the most watched trailer in YouTube history, and it’s easy to say that not just the movie-going public is excited for J.J. Abrams' vision for a galaxy far, far away, but the world itself is waiting with bated breath for the December 18, 2015 release.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Title Image

But, one question (there were many actually!) arose after viewing the trailer. Who is that narrating?

Now we know, and it’s a man we’ve been getting to know more and more over the years. Yup, that’s Andy Serkis, most recently seen in his mo-cap suit in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and creating a striking figure in that Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer.

That man is in demand and we couldn’t be happier.

But, who is Serkis playing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and why is he filled with such knowledge and vision when he says, “There’s been an awakening. Have you felt it?”

Oh, we felt it and for fans of Serkis’ work as Caesar in the Planet of the Apes movies, you can hear his husky gravely voice for sure now that we know it’s him!

The theory around the Star Wars campfire is that Serkis may be playing two roles, and one might involve a flashback backstory with Daisy Ridley. That could explain her looking so anxious to get the heck out of Dodge on the unique landspeeder in the trailer.

Is Serkis as the narrator speaking to her?! Could be…

We’ll know more as future trailers hit. We hear the next one will debut for Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1. Fitting, no? They share not only Disney in common, but Serkis too!

John Boyega Questions
Is John Boyega on Tatooine? We think yes. Is he a Storm Trooper? We think no. We believe that Boyega has been undercover and he has landed on Tatooine looking for Luke Skywalker and, yes, he looks deathly serious. Something wicked this way is coming.

Avengers Age of Ultron: First Look at The Vision!

When we talked to Paul Bettany about being The Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron at Comic-Con, he admitted that although super cool, his costume was super uncomfortable.

Well, now we have our first look at what Bettany will look like when the sequel to The Avengers hits theaters May 1, 2015.

Marvel has released the concept art for Bettany’s The Vision and, yup, he’s right, it’s super cool.

Noticeably absent from that first Avengers: Age of Ultron teaser trailer that premiered last month, it is clear that writer-director Joss Whedon is keeping his new Avenger close to his chest. But, we will take this first image (in the slideshow below) until he makes his appearance in the next trailer (which we hear will arrive sooner rather than later).

Avengers: Age of Ultron brings back Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson and introduces us to James Spader as Ultron, Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor Johnson as Quicksilver.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes DVD Review: Caesar Takes Charge!

$

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes stormed into theaters earlier this year and was a triumph in every sense of the word. Director Matt Reeves had not only crafted a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but had made a film that will surely be on many top 10 lists (it will be on ours) as one of the best movies of the year. All that buzz about Andy Serkis scoring the first Oscar nomination for a motion capture performance… well, it is more than founded.

Now Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has landed on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download and the entire package is as brilliant as the film itself (check out our theatrical Dawn of the Planet of the Apes review for more on that).

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes DVD

It’s been a decade since the action seen when you watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes online. The so-called Simian Flu has all but wiped out the human population. Survivors in San Francisco are huddled in refugee-like camp that they are forced to call home. Meanwhile, the apes (led by Serkis’ Caesar) are living quite the life themselves north of the city in the woodsy ape paradise where they are building families and forging a future.

Yet, when the two sides surprisingly meet (shown in the Dawn of the Planet of the Apes trailer), a fragile peace is broken.

On one side you have Jason Clarke and Keri Russell, two survivors who believe we can live alongside the apes. On the other is Gary Oldman, who believes that the only good ape is a dead ape. When it comes to the humans, who will lead them?

Then, there are the apes. Serkis’ Caesar is confused. He wants to believe the humans can be worked with, but history has not proven that to be correct. He is also keeping down an element of his tribe that wants to finish off the humans and rule the planet (as the title says!).

The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes DVD and Blu-Ray bonus features are massive and should keep fans of the film quite entertained! There are over two hours of it! Here are some of our favorites and why…

Given our utter adoration for what Serkis does, the featurette Andy Serkis: Rediscovering Caesar is a must view. Watching the actor not only get back into the character he created in the first film, but witnessing him trying to channel this creature that has lived through what he experienced in the 10 years that have gone by since that film’s time period is nothing short of an actor at his best.

Plus, technology has grown immensely since that first film. Reeves and his team now have the ability to do mo-cap on location and as such it is beyond impressive to see technology meet talent (Serkis') in this bonus feature.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Battle Poster

As Serkis is not the only one in a mo-cap suit, the featurette Human and Apes: The Cast of Dawn is a terrific addition to this home video package. Did you know that Judy Greer was in the film? Yep, she and a dozen other actors donned the mo-cap suits and headed out into the forest with Serkis, and watching them all at work is mesmerizing. The human cast also gets its due in this documentary short, and we’ll always watch a behind-the-scenes look at Oldman at work!

Weta and Dawn shows why the New Zealand-based special effects house is quickly becoming one of the best in the world. Peter Jackson first introduced us to them with their work on the Lord of the Rings movies, and they have only exponentially grown in talent and scope. Their work on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is sublime to say the least.

And we cannot recommend enough the audio commentary by director Reeves. It is clear that this film is his passion project and his adulation is on every frame -- hearing him talk about the filmmaking while watching his movie is a true gift.

To celebrate the film’s arrival in theaters, we’re presenting an exclusive Rosewater prize pack that includes the poster for the film, as well as the book Rosewater (recently renamed from its original title, Then They Came for Me: A Family’s Story of Love, Captivity and Survival), written by the subject of the movie, Maziar Bahari.

Black Panther: Chadwick Boseman Is “Thrilled”

We haven’t heard too much from Chadwick Boseman since we attended that event where Marvel announced plans through 2019 for all its films and Boseman was announced as Black Panther. But now, in a series sponsored by Variety called “Actors on Actors,” Boseman was asked by Logan Lerman about the Marvel comic role of a lifetime. Lerman was a wee bit excited for his compatriot.

Black Panther Logo

“I’m excited about it too -- beyond excited! It’s like to the point where you feel numb and then your mind goes off into, ‘Ok, how do I achieve that?’ The great thing about it is that the actual character is unique in a lot of ways,” Boseman said.

His reasons for being thrilled to be Black Panther are the same ones we have for wanting a Black Panther movie.

“I can’t think of another character that’s like the leader of a nation and is a superhero at the same time. There are a lot of different ways this story can go, ways that they can do it, so I’m really just excited about how it fits into the bigger picture of what Marvel is doing.”

There was some question as to when we would first see Black Panther. We think it’s a safe bet that he’ll appear before his solo movie lands November 3, 2017.

“There’s a director on the movies that I’m introduced, but not for Black Panther. Just being a part of that discussion is huge. You’re reading the comic books and you have ideas about how that’s gonna happen and you can discuss that,” Boseman said.

OK, there’s a clue. “There’s a director…” That quote makes us believe that it has to be Captain America: Civil War.

What’s next for the MCU? Avengers: Age of Ultron. Here’s the full release schedule of all the Marvel movies.

Wild Review: Another Oscar For Reese Witherspoon?

$
0
0

The first thing one has to know about Wild is this film is nothing like Tom Hanks in Castaway. Reese Witherspoon spends a lot of time alone hiking the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, but she is in no way alone as Hanks is with the use of flashbacks and the numerous human encounters her character comes across along the way. Director Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club) has crafted an effecting and compelling story.

Wild Star Reese Witherspoon

Wild is based on the true life tale of Cheryl Strayed, chronicled in her book Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.

In a nutshell, she was awash in addiction, ruined her marriage by being a serial cheater and basically alienated anyone she knows and loves. With nothing to lose and no hope, she felt, for a future, she needed to head out into the Wild in an effort to find herself. Her journey goes far past the other self discovery movies we’ve seen in the past. This, all told, is a triumph of the human spirit story.

Vallee works his magic with a liberal use of a timeline. We meet Strayed as a young child, being brought up by a single mother (Laura Dern) and also as a woman in the process of getting divorced from her husband. This is all while Strayed is talking her journey and the rough and often perilous paths she hikes. But, it is through this walkabout that she will discover that these challenges she encounters on the Pacific Crest Trail are no tougher than what she has already triumphed over in her own life.

She is a living, breathing success story of perseverance. So, why can’t she complete this trek?

Wild Reese Witherspoon Michiel Huisman

Witherspoon is astounding. There is no question that the Oscar winner for Walk the Line could be looking at another Best Actress trophy for Wild. She commands every scene and since she is in every minute of the movie, it’s hard not to notice that everything that Witherspoon has done up until this point in her career has led her on a path to being the best she can be in Wild.

This is not a typical character for the actress. Not, that she plays a type truly. But, there is something about Strayed that is not that likable (at first) and that the actress portraying her has to build up affinity from her audience over the course of the movie that is no easy task. With Witherspoon it happens so organically it’s almost unnoticeable. There is a true arc of character that has to grow that lesser actresses could never master. Yet Witherspoon is awe-inspiring in her ability to channel Strayed, warts and all.

As you can see when you watch Dallas Buyers Club online, Vallee is a director who knows how to tell a true story where the audience is allowed to not simply be a witness, but an emotional participant. And what he does with the Strayed story is nothing short of a miracle. He manages to hit all the poignant notes that make us human, all while painting a portrait of a person who is discovering her humanity one step at a time.

Bond 24 Is Called Spectre: Cast Revealed!

It is always so nice when a Bond movie title goes from a number to something, frankly, cool. That happened when Bond 23 became Skyfall and now Bond 24 will forever be known as Spectre.

Spectre Logo

MGM, Sony and EON Productions announced this morning that the film that will be released November 6, 2015 and starts production on December 8 has an official title. Director Sam Mendes also took to the stage at Pinewood Studios at the 007 Sound Stage to formally introduce the cast, in addition to revealing the title.

Of course we know that Daniel Craig will be back as James Bond, Ben Whishaw returns as Q, Naomie Harris gets her first full movie as “Moneypenny” and Ralph Fiennes does the same as M.

Then he introduced M. Andrew Scott, who will play Denbigh, Monica Bellucci is Lucia Sciarra, Lea Seydoux will be Madeline Swann and we now know that our villains have names! David Bautista’s thug is Mr. Hinx and Christoph Waltz is Oberhauser.

They also showed off 007’s new ride, the Astin Martin DB10, which was made exclusively for Spectre.

We also got a bit of a teaser in terms of plot for the next James Bond movie. It seems that 007 gets a puzzling message from his past that sends him off on an international search for an evil organization (Spectre, as most Bond fans will remember). Meanwhile, M has his own fight… he is battling on the political front to keep the institution of the 00s alive.

In case you’re wondering, Spectre stands for Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. It comes right from the pages of Ian Fleming’s novels and is led by one of the best Bond villains of all, Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Check out our countdown of the best Bond villains in the slideshow below… where does Blofeld land? And while we wait for the next installment, watch Skyfall online!

Disneynature has seriously established itself as a force of, well, nature, when it comes to nature documentaries that entertain and enlighten. With the release of the latest Monkey Kingdom trailer, it appears that trend shows no signs of slowing.

This time out, the focus is on the monkeys of South Asia… specifically Maya. She has become a new mother to a little one named Kip. We meet not only Maya and Kip, but their extended family that Disneynature promises is quite the cast of characters.

When their home, in an area called Castle Rock, is taken over by a powerful neighboring monkey tribe, they are forced to relocate and Monkey Kingdom chronicles that effort, as well as their challenge to reclaim their home.

Disneynature last wowed us in the film you can see when you watch Bears online, and they've also charmed us with works such as Earth, Chimpanzee, African Cats and Oceans -- which are among the highest grossing nature documentaries of all time.

Look for Monkey Kingdom in theaters this Earth Day, April 17, 2015. And for every ticket sold during opening week, Disneynature will make a donation to Conservation International to help monkeys and other endangered species stay in their natural habitats.
