Dredd is seeking to have audiences suffer a little memory loss when it comes to the original film starring Sylvester Stallone. Based on the comic strip by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra, Judge Dredd is a character beloved by millions and his return with Karl Urban starring is creating quite a buzz. We recently ran a new photo of Urban as Dredd, and now we have two more pics from the flick. The first gives us Urban as Dredd and Olivia Thirlby as Cassandra Anderson, a woman clearly ready for a fight.

The second new still from Dredd, directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point), features our hero, Urban as Dredd, in full regalia. Urban and Thirlby arrive in theaters in Dredd on September 21.

Benjamin Walker has the esteemed honor of playing one of our greatest presidents, albeit in a different story than he could have ever imagined. We get a great look at Walker swinging an axe, trying to kill some nasty night crawlers in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter in some new photos published by Entertainment Weekly.

The first TV spot for Mirror Mirror has arrived and it gives us another great look at Julia Roberts and her Evil Queen. Lily Collins is Snow White in director Tarsem Singh’s (Immortals) vision of the classic tale. This new teaser also allows Armie Hammer to shine as Price Alcott, Sean Bean as the King and the always classically comedic Nathan Lane as Roberts’ silly servant Brighton.

The film hits theaters March 30 and follows the Evil Queen in her efforts to keep control of her kingdom as a revolution is brewing.

Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum Talk The Vow

Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams are sitting together, reuniting to talk about their new romance, The Vow. The film follows a young couple who has their world cave in when McAdams’ Paige loses her memory after a head injury caused by a rear-end collision. The story is loosely based on a real-life couple and how they coped with such trauma, particularly when the only memory that is lost concerns their relationship. The real-life woman remembered everything up to getting together with the man she married.

Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in The Vow
Director Michael Sucsy actually encouraged his actors to not meet the real-life couple. “[It] was because we took some different liberties with their story,” Tatum said. “I think they were stronger than our characters. They stayed together and I don’t know how you do that in reality. I don’t know if I’d be able to do that. She just woke up and didn’t know him. I think that had a lot to do with their faith. They’re very religious. They are so positive and have two beautiful kids running around. I was nervous to meet the guy.”

McAdams concurs. “This story was inspired by their story, but our characters are very different people with very different jobs and I think they’d only been married for two months before this happened,” she said. McAdams did eventually meet her and was astounded at the experience. “I met her and she’s amazing. She did wake up and say, ‘Okay, you’re telling me this is my husband?’ She hadn’t lost her faith. That hadn’t gone away. She felt the same about her commitment to vows.”

In The Vow, Tatum is Leo and the actor could not believe the film’s good fortune that McAdams signed on to the part of Paige. “Her character is hard to play honestly and I didn’t know who could play it and keep the audience’s sympathy. She was an entirely different person before the accident. Waking up was a world-changing thing for her. Not just waking up and not remembering one person,” Tatum said.

The thorniest aspect of The Vow experience for McAdams was to make her character relatable and grounded. Not many audience members may understand a woman distancing herself from her husband as Paige does in The Vow. “Because Paige becomes so disconnected from Leo, it was a challenge to keep things hopeful and not knowing what’s coming around the next corner and also being true to the experiences and emotions that she would be going through which are quite erratic. And she’s frustrated and anxious,” McAdams said. “That was difficult. These reactions are totally understandable, but you’re also rooting for them. You want them to get back together. We talked about how irritable she could be. How far away can they get from each other and still be able to come back and leave a shred of hope?”

Both actors have had a successful history of appearing in romantic films. For McAdams, it wasn’t about the romance per se as much as the chance to work with her director and Tatum, as well as explore a unique take on a story in a genre that has been very good to her after turns in The Notebook and The Time Traveler’s Wife.

“[The director] seemed to have a new take on the classic love story and this was one I’d never seen before, inspired by true events. It seemed like a really worthwhile story to tell,” McAdams recalled. “I like the challenge of not making it so predictable and working against that. It seemed quite unique to me and certainly a character I hadn’t played. Also, unlike some so-called 'chick flicks,' we’re seeing things through the guy’s eyes in this one.”

Tatum selected The Vow for his next film because the story spoke to him, regardless of its romantic quotient. “I really just loved the idea of Leo in an extraordinary circumstance with his lover Paige and it doesn’t take a stereotypical Nicholas Sparks way to get back around to love,” Tatum said with a slight jab to his Dear John author. “There’s no ah-ha moment where everything falls into place. It’s a more realistic way to get back to love. Rachel did some interesting study on people who lose their memories. A certain percentage just fall back into who they were which I thought was very interesting.”

Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams Star in The Vow
As Michael Fassbender did in 2011, appearing in five films, it looks like 2012 is the year of Tatum. After his turn in Haywire, he has The Vow, 21 Jump Street, Magic Mike and G.I. Joe: Retaliation all arriving this year. “I had no intention of five movies coming out. Two of them were supposed to come out last year so it was not supposed to happen like this, but it’s a very high class problem,” Tatum said. “I’m very proud of all the films. They’re all very different. If they were all the same, I’d be freaking out.”

Hugh Jackman and The Wolverine Set a Release Date

There was a time when we thought we might not get to see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine again. The sequel The Wolverine has had so many delays, it almost seemed as if it would fall by the wayside. Good news has arrived today, courtesy of 20th Century Fox, in that the film now has a release date of July 26, 2013.

Hugh Jackman is Wolverine
Jackman told Movie Fanatic back in November that The Wolverine would be next on his list. But, with a wry smile, he said much without saying a thing. The actor knew all too well the long and arduous journey that is bringing the sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine to life.

The Wolverine will be directed by James Mangold (Walk the Line, 3:10 to Yuma) and follows our hero as he commences a romance with a Japanese woman who is already promised to another. Knowing Logan, he won’t accept defeat and his passion for this woman leads him into a battle against her samurai sword-wielding brothers and their gang, known as the Silver Samurai.

The DVD and Blu-Ray releases this week are a trio of films that could not be more different. Harold and Kumar give their take on a Christmas story in A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas, Shakespeare's writings are questioned in Anonymous and Disney opens the vault for the Blu-Ray release of a classic Lady and the Tramp.

Lady and the Tramp: Disney’s classic tale of canines in love lands on Blu-Ray for a limited time. The Lady and the Tramp Diamond Edition is a must own for any Disney fan or for anyone who enjoys animated family films. As this title is from the Disney vault, it will only be available for a limited time. The Blu-Ray extras that shine include Inside Walt’s Story Meetings, Diane Disney Miller remembers her dad, three never-before-seen deleted scenes and a new song that was not recorded for the film, I’m Free as the Breeze.

A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas: John Cho and Kal Penn are back at it as Harold and Kumar as the duo give us their take on a Christmas tale. Given that this is Harold and Kumar, you know the high hijinx will be off the charts. Movie Fanatic received the Extra Dope Edition Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack and relished in the six minutes of extra footage in the film. Our exclusive interview subject Tom Lennon gets a showcase in a feature on the Blu-Ray entitled Through the Haze with Tom Lennon. The famous Claymation scene from the film, one of its absolute highlights, is explored in the bonus feature Bringing Harold & Kumar Claymation to Life. Of course, who steals the show? Neil Patrick Harris is back as himself. In honor of that fact, Warner Bros. Home Video is featuring a Neil Patrick Harris Appreciation Day. Head to Twitter and check out #ILOVENPH and let them know why you like him so much and how, you think, he makes the Harold and Kumar films great.

Anonymous: What if Shakespeare did not write all those terrific works? That is the question posed by director Roland Emmerich in his political thriller Anonymous. In the film, the works are actually composed by an earl who uses Shakespeare as the face and name of the plays and sonnets because writing was deemed below a royal. See the film and decide for yourself whether you believe what Emmerich is presenting! The film’s extras are small, but are highlighted by a commentary by Emmerich and screenwriter John Orloff (check out our exclusive interview) and a feature called Who is the real William Shakespeare?

Oscar Watch: Why The Descendants Deserves to Win

In our continuing series on the Oscar nominated films, today we hone in on the outsider that could pull a surprise win -- The Descendants. George Clooney is considered the favorite for his category (who do you think should win Best Actor?), but what are the film’s chances to take Best Picture?

George Clooney, Shailene Woodley and Amara Miller in The Descendants
The Descendants is from director Alexander Payne (who is nominated himself in the directing category), who co-wrote the screenplay (also earning a nod). It tells the story of a father of two young girls and his personal challenges as his recently discovered to be cheating wife lands in a life threatening coma. The film has heart and humor in droves and is the type of smaller film that the Academy adores. But, will it be enough to win the highest honor of the night? Movie Fanatic believes that it is currently running a very close second behind The Artist.

When we spoke exclusively with Shailene Woodley in our video interview (below), the young actress spoke to how the experience of filming The Descendants is one she won’t soon forget. Woodley, a Golden Globe nominee for Best Supporting Actress, revealed exactly why the film deserves the top prize in her description of the movie.

Clooney’s co-stars Judy Greer and Matthew Lillard, who play husband and wife in the film, add their thoughts in our exclusive video interview below on what makes the film such a powerful piece of work and it has a lot to do with their director Payne.

If you had asked us two months ago who the leader was for Best Picture, Movie Fanatic would have not even flinched: The Descendants. But as the momentum has shifted here in Hollywood, it still looks like The Artist is the film to beat. But, upsets happen all the time and if The Descendants pulls it off, in our opinion, one fine picture was rewarded.

Lastly, the studio unleashed a poster that features all of the film’s main characters. Of course Worthington is first, Rosamund Pike as Andromeda's next and then Toby Kebbell as Agenor. They save the biggies for last: Oscar nominees Ralph Fiennes as Hades and Liam Neeson (don't miss our exclusive video interview with him!) as Zeus.

Kristen Stewart may not have said a word yet in the Snow White and the Huntsman trailer or the film’s second teaser, but she is getting some serious attention with recent stills. The latest released by Universal has the Twilight star in the midst of a raging battle.

Snow White and the Huntsman Star Kristen Stewart
The film stars Charlize Theron as the Evil Queen, a woman on a mission to find the fairest in the land (Stewart) and destroy her. She enlists (or forces!) the help of the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to track her. He turns sides and trains Stewart’s Snow White for battle, all in an effort to bring down the Evil Queen.

The not-your-grandmother’s Snow White adventure lands in theaters June 1.

The Anne Rice iconic character of Lestat was our choice to headline our Top 10 Movie Vampires and clearly Imagine Entertainment was listening. The production company has optioned Rice’s book The Tale of the Body Thief in an effort to bring Lestat back to the big screen.

Tom Cruise is Lestat in Interview with a Vampire
We doubt that Tom Cruise (Interview with the Vampire) or Stuart Townsend (Queen of the Damned) will return to the role, but Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s production company believes that the audience is hungry for a return of the fanged anti-hero.

Rice’s The Tale of the Body Thief follows a Lestat that has gone rogue when he exchanges his body for a human psychic. When the psychic refuses to allow Lestat to return to his own form, things get really dramatic.

Stay tuned for more details, Lestat fans!

They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, then what is parody? For one thing, it says you have made it into the highest lexicons of popular culture! The Hunger Games and Lana Del Ray are the subject of a new music video from Second City’s Holly Laurent that simultaneously pokes fun at the Suzanne Collins first film foray and Lana Del Ray’s hit song Video Games. Check out the video and let us know what you think.

For fans of the book series, the lyrics are pretty clever. We particularly like the line that states, “This District smells like rat piss/My name is Katniss.” Oh, and this line kills us: "I don't want Peeta to be dead. A pita is a pouch of bread. But that's his name."

The Bourne Legacy Trailer: Jeremy Renner Rocks

We’ve got the first look at Jeremy Renner as he takes over the Bourne franchise from Matt Damon. The first trailer for The Bourne Legacy has debuted and our first impressions are that Renner could not have been a more perfect choice to continue the series. Renner is a completely different agent than Damon's Bourne, thus the “Bourne Legacy” aspect of the title. Damon’s character still looms large.

The teaser shows us Renner as Kenneth Kitson, clearly not at the best moment of his life. Stars of the Bourne series are back, as we see in the trailer, including Joan Allen, Albert Finney, Scott Glenn and David Strathairn. But, we also get treated to the heavily featured new characters played by Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz.

Universal has also debuted the film’s first poster (below). Look for the film to hit theaters August 3.

The Muppets Exclusive: Bret McKenzie on Oscar Nod, Music and Movies

Bret McKenzie was in his native New Zealand when he got the call that he was an Oscar nominee, he tells Movie Fanatic in our exclusive interview. McKenzie was honored for his work penning the song Man or Muppet from Jason Segel’s The Muppets. His initial reaction might surprise you.

Bret McKenzie and The Muppets
“The first thing that freaks me out is I thought, ‘Oh my God, what if I have to get up on that stage? This is going to be stressful,'" he said and laughed. “But it’s really exciting. The whole team is really proud of the film. Comedies don’t get nominated for awards really so it’s great that The Muppets managed to sneak through the system and be recognized. And no, I couldn’t get back to sleep!”

McKenzie is widely known as part of the magical team that produces The Flight of the Conchords. He keenly understands the world of music and its relationship to the visual, whether TV or film. So when he heard about his Oscar nomination, the songwriter in him immediately thought about the heady company that he now keeps. “It’s mind-blowing. I’m concerned about the next song I have to write,” McKenzie said with a smile. “I’m going to sit there looking at it and be like, ‘I’m an Academy Award nominee. I better write a good song [laughs].”

It is the day after the annual Academy Award nominee luncheon and we’re sitting at the Disney offices with McKenzie, and the entire experience is clearly still sinking in with the first time Oscar nominee. “You really get a sense what a great history the Academy has. It is amazing to be on that list. Yesterday, I was sitting at a table with Meryl Streep! I couldn’t even talk to her. It’s very mind-blowing. Being from New Zealand, growing up, Hollywood was even further away than for Americans. It’s not real. So now, I’ve started working here and it feels like I’ve been welcomed to the movie world.”

When McKenzie sat down to craft the song Man or Muppet, Segel and co-writer Nick Stoller’s (check out our exclusive interview with him) script was complete and they just needed to fill in the songs. “They already had a lot of song demos. It’s similar to the way we did Conchords with James (Bobin, The Muppets director and fellow Conchord). There’s a storyboard with cards, and then blue cards for the songs,” McKenzie remembered.

Place holders were there for two songs already, Everything’s Great (the film’s opening number) and Man or Muppet, with a brief description of what filmmakers wanted. “Man or Muppet needed to be a song with Gary (Segel) and Walter singing about whether they’re a man or a Muppet. James had an idea for the reflections to appear. There were demos that were good but they weren’t quite hitting the mixture of sincerity and comedy that we needed. That’s the sort of style that James and I kind of like. So then I started working away and I knew there needed to be this sort of echo-y moment where the characters sing back.”

In the film, Segel and his Muppet friend Walter are joined by their Muppet-human counterparts -- Segel as a Muppet and Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons as Walter in human form. “James did an amazing video for it. The picture and the music really work together in that song. And that’s why it’s so successful.”

When the new Oscar nominee first saw the scene we describe above, what struck him the most was the star power of the main man in The Muppets. “What a great performance Jason Segel did. It’s interesting that was the first thing I felt. It was one of those songs where it flowed very smoothly. The whole process from the beginning to the final edit, there were very little changes. Each thing just fell into place,” he said. “Often in filmmaking, from my experience, there are a lot of cuts, chops and trying to fix things.”

Man or Muppet was meant to be the moment on which the entire film pivoted. McKenzie had crafted a song that needed no alternations; it went right into the film. “The first day we recorded it with Jason, he did an amazing job. He pretty much did the vocal take that we used in the film! That song had that sort of lucky, slightly magical feeling from the beginning,” McKenzie said.

Most men can relate to that moment where we are forced to grow up, or at least accept that younger follies no longer apply. “The thing that struck me was Jason -- he just went really deep on screen. That’s what’s hilarious about it. I love watching the audience’s reaction -- because in the film, he’s almost childlike and playful. But, when he gets to this song, suddenly there’s a lot more going on. It’s a real turning moment.”

Lastly, we're alone with McKenzie and we have to ask: Any news on a Flight of the Conchords movie? "You bet. We're working on a slew of ideas right now," McKenzie admitted. Color us thrilled!

Oscar Watch: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close's Power

From its surprise series of nominations to the overwhelming love given nominee Max von Sydow at Monday’s Oscar luncheon, the little movie that could -- Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close -- is the surprise Academy Award nominated movie of the season.

Tom Hanks Extremely in Loud & Incredibly Close
The story follows a boy who loses his father in the 9/11 attacks in New York City. Soon after, he embarks on a journey through the five boroughs to find clues to a puzzle left behind by his father. The film is slowly garnering support since its December debut.

Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock may be the film's stars, but it is Max von Sydow and young Thomas Horn who command our attention.

As heartbreaking as Horn’s performance is, Sydow’s is equally as powerful, and for it he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. The duo shares some of the best scenes in the film. Sydow’s character is mute and all of his emotional resonance has to come through gestures and written notes -- an incredibly difficult task for an actor.

But this Oscar Watch column is about the nomination for Best Picture and for this, the Academy has really outdone themselves.

The film, as it so effectively says in its tagline, is not about 9/11, it is about every day after. Showing how so many picked up the pieces, even as they were forever bruised by the “worst day” -- as Horn’s character calls it -- is truly inspiring.

Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close was one of Movie Fanatic's Top 10 Movies of 2011 and we could not be more thrilled it scored Hollywood’s highest honor with a Best Picture nomination.

Who Should Win Best Supporting Actress?

When the Oscar nominations were announced, although deeply deserved, the biggest surprise had to be Jessica Chastain making the cut alongside her The Help co-star Octavia Spencer. The latter is the odds-on favorite to follow up her Golden Globes win with Oscar gold, yet Movie Fanatic wants to hear from our readers who you believe should take home the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award.

Berenice Bejo in The Artist
The Artist star Berenice Bejo (check out our exclusive video interview with her) could possibly be swept in to the winner’s circle by her film’s impressive 10 nominations. The film is the favorite to win Best Picture and perhaps she could ride coattails to victory.

Albert Nobbs scene stealer Janet McTeer earned a long deserved nomination for her work alongside Best Actress nominee Glenn Close. She may be the longest shot of all the nominees, but… you never know, remember Marissa Tomei and her upset?

The fifth spot on the Best Supporting Actress list went to Melissa McCarthy. With all the attention being paid on The Help actresses, unfortunately McCarthy and her Bridesmaids scene stealing turn will likely have to be classified under the eponymous moniker: "It's just an honor to be nominated."

Who do you think deserves the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress?

Naomi Watts Cast as Princess Di

The casting war is over for who will play Princess Di in an upcoming biopic. Naomi Watts is the actress lucky enough to wear the tiara in Caught in Flight. According to BBC News, the film is “a compelling portrait of Diana, Princess of Wales during the last two years of her life.”

Naomi Watts as Elizabeth
Watts’ joy in portraying “The People’s Princess,” as she was called, was palpable in a statement released to the world. “Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her onscreen,” Watts said. “It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role.”

Specifically, the film will focus on a secret affair Diana had with heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Kahn. According to Caught in Flight’s producers, the princess and the surgeon’s relationship was “a love story between a princess locked in a tower and an ordinary man.”

There were a bevy of actresses rumored to be battling to play Di including Best Supporting Actress nominee for Tree of Life, Jessica Chastain (take our poll: Will she win?).
